For some, poop is funny. For others, it’s repulsive. But poop happens! Ideally, it should only happen in the proper environment. However, sometimes you stroll through the park and splat! A bird excretes waste, and it finds its way right onto your shoulder — or worse! Your hair or face! So, is a bird pooping on you really a sign of good luck? Well, that depends on you!

Is a Bird Pooping on You Really a Sign of Good Luck?

If you’re asking from a scientific perspective, the answer is no. However, there have been superstitions and folklore surrounding a bird pooping on you (or things you own!) for centuries. Many ancient cultures believe that a bird pooping on you is a sign of good luck! It may seem counterintuitive but there’s an explanation for why a bird pooping on you is often perceived as a good sign.

The Symbolism of Birds

It’s not so much the poop that is a sign of good luck. You really have to look at the symbolism of birds. Birds are thought of as messengers that bridge the material world with the spiritual realm. They are seen as divine creatures in many cultures and so their droppings are also associated with something heavenly. Granted, heavenly poop sounds like an oxymoron. But bear with us.

Interpretations of a Bird Pooping on You

If a bird poops on you, it’s seen as a bit of the heavens raining down on you. Although it seems comical because ultimately, it’s poop, it does have a special significance for many. When a bird poops on you, it’s like a reminder that you’re connected to the spiritual realm. These happenings are meant to bring you good fortune and when you have a sense of humor about it, you can release a few endorphins while you come to terms with your connection to all things divine and unseen.

If you’re being practical about it, it may feel like bad luck to get pooped on. Especially if you are dressed up and headed somewhere important. It could cause you quite the inconvenience of cleaning up or having to rush home and change. Nevertheless, you can choose to interpret the incident of a bird pooping on you in any way you choose. Even if it presents as an inconvenience, a detour may actually lead you to the next best days of your life. If that happens, you have a bit of bird poop to thank!
