Wyoming sits in the Mountain West subregion of the western United States. It features border states Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado. It became the 44th state in 1890 and has over 575,000 residents, making it the least populated state. However, the largest city in Wyoming attracts residents and tourists year-round.

The state boasts seven national parks and has The Thunder Basin National Grassland. Between these parks, the grassland, and an Air Force base, around half of the land in Wyoming belongs to the federal government.

The largest city in Wyoming is Cheyenne, which is also the state capital. The population in Cheyenne is 64,722, a decrease from the 2020 census results of 65,161. While this city is currently the largest, the declining population could change that fact if another city experiences a drastic increase.

Cheyenne is well-known for having the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, called Cheyenne Frontier Days, which dates back to 1897. Train enthusiasts love to visit for the the largest steam engine in the world, Big Boy. People also visit the area because of the many natural monuments nearby.

What Will Be the Largest City in Wyoming in 30 Years?

The largest city in Wyoming in 30 years will likely still be Cheyenne. While they did lose residents, the decline rate isn’t large enough to allow growing cities to catch up by then.

Casper, WY, is the second largest right now, but their population decline is happening at higher rates than Cheyenne. The third largest city, Laramie, experienced population growth. However, it likely won’t grow enough in the next 30 years to surpass Cheyenne.
