Not only is Texas famous for its petroleum and coal manufacturing, but it is also the number one producer of oil and the largest exporting state. These three factors contribute to the state’s overall economic success. Texas also features some of the fastest income growth in the country and has a booming real estate market. All this to say, Texas does it big and attracts real wealth. Discover the top five wealthiest counties in all of Texas, including the notable people who live there.   

1. Kendall County

Kendall County is one of the wealthiest counties in Texas with a median household income of $100,706.

Located on the Edwards Plateau, Kendall County is outside San Antonio and has a population of 44,000. Boerne is the largest city and county seat in Kendall County and is known for its German-Texan history, natural landmarks, and stunning views of Texas Hill Country. It’s also known for being one of the wealthiest counties in all of Texas. Kendall County has a per capita income of $53,156 and a median household income of $100,706. It’s home to notable people, such as Cheryl Ladd, Gracie Gillam, Mark Dennis, and Michelle Beadle.

2. Collin County

Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, Collin County has a population of 1.1 million. This county is one of the best places to live in Texas, where residents enjoy a multitude of shops, restaurants, and parks. Collin County is also one of the wealthiest in the state, featuring a median household income of $104,327 and a per capita income of $48,438. In fact, it is one of the most affluent areas in the nation. Among some of the richest cities in Collin County are McKinney, Westminster, Plano, Allen, and Frisco. Several famous people are originally from Collin County, such as Jason Ralph, J. Michael Tatum, and PJ Washington, who attended Lone Star High School. Currently, running back Ezekial Elliot has a sprawling home in Frisco.

Located in South-Central Texas, Travis County is the fifth most populous county in the state, with nearly 1.3 million people. Austin is the county seat, largest city, and the state capital of Travis County. As one of the wealthiest counties in Texas, the median household income is $85,000, and the per capita income is $49,191. For the richest zip codes in Austin, you will find median household incomes of $136,779 (78619) and $171,027 (78733). The city also has over 30,000 millionaires and at least 86 centi-millionaires. It should be no surprise that Austin is home to many celebrities, such as Mathew McConaughey, Willie Nelson, Sandra Bullock, Elijah Wood, and James Van Der Beek.   

4. Denton County

Denton County is outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is the seventh most populous in Texas, with a population of 906,422. The city of Denton is the county seat and largest city within Denton County. The county has a median household income of $96,262 and a per capita income of $45,782. Some of the richest places to live in Denton County are Copper Canyon, Shady Shores, and Oak Point. Some of the most notable people from Denton County include Anne Winters, Ann Sheridan, and Shelly Cole.   

5. Rockwall County

With just 149 square miles, Rockwall County is one of the smallest counties in Texas. Despite its size, it’s also one of the wealthiest. The county contains around 116,000 people, and the city of Rockwall is the county seat. Rockwall has a population of nearly 50,000 people and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is one of the best places to live in Texas but features a cost of living more than 107% of the national average. The median household income for Rockwall County is $111,595 and the per capita income is $47,802. Some of the well-known people from Rockwall include Alex Jones, Mitchel Musso, Travis Tedford, and Nicole C. Mullen.
