There’s just something about being around wild animals that is an incredible experience. Most of the time when we think about being around wild animals it is if we are hiking, at the zoo, or even on a safari. But, every now and then wildlife emerges from the comfort of their territory and comes directly to us. Let’s not miss this deer walking straight up to domestic dogs to say “Good morning!”

Deer Emerging From Woods

The short YouTube video clip shown at the beginning brings us to the YouTube page of Buffy Murdock. He shares various photos of deer that have come onto his property. In addition to that, he also shares footage of cats and gorgeous sunsets.

Young Buck Interacting With Dogs

As the video above starts out we see that this deer has emerged from the woods and walked straight up to this couple’s house. They were outside on their front porch with their two large dogs. This deer has clearly been here before, as he felt comfortable walking right up knowing he would be welcome with open arms. And that these dogs were completely calm and friendly to him.

Immediately we hear the lady call out “Oh hi Bud! Hi honey.” And then the deer walks over to the man and sniffs his hands.

According to the Mississippi State University deer have an incredibly powerful sense of smell. “A change of wind direction can give deer just a whiff of human scent and send them running…Deer not only use their sense of smell to detect predators, but also to communicate with one another.” It is said that deer may have the ability to have 500-1,000 better sense of smell than that of a human.

The deer then begins to eat from this family who had food ready for him in a bowl. This regular even had his own name, “Mac Daddy.”

Are Deer Naturally Afraid of Humans?

There are 40 different species of deer (Odocoileus virginiana) of the family Cervidae. It’s easy for us as humans to have a fear of wild animals because we are not around them very much and don’t know how they will respond. Also, another factor is how large animals are. It’s easy to be fearful of an animal that is larger than you are. Deer can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds and reach almost up to seven feet tall.

Well, just as we can be afraid, so can deer. The American Scientist concluded a study that states, “Deer are more afraid of humans than their natural predators.” And that “By understanding the fear that we instill in wildlife, and by being respectful, considerate planet-mates, we can better coexist with other species.”

So, as we can see from the video above, even though deer can have a fear of humans, there is a way for us to respect them and exist peacefully with them. And this couple has this down slammed packed. This deer knew that it would be safe around them and their pets.
