Monkey Sighting in Thailand

The next YouTube post at the top of this blog post takes us to Thailand. This video was shared by the Newslfare YouTube page. This channel offers amazing videos that are released worldwide. To date, they have received more than one billion views across all these clips. They share a short description of what happened in the video posted below.

“This is the astonishing moment hundreds of starving wild monkeys scramble for a single piece of food because of the coronavirus outbreak. The primates are normally well-fed by tourists in the city of Lopburi, central Thailand, but visitors have plummeted because of the virus sweeping the world. So when one of the primates had a juicy banana, the entire pack roaming around the streets surrounded the creature this morning (March 11) and tried to grab it. Footage shows how hundreds of monkeys began tussling for the snack. When one of the animals fled with it, the creatures chased it up a grass bank. Even locals who are used to seeing the creatures were shocked by their ferocity.”

Monkeys Vs. Hunger

It’s hard to imagine that we could see thousands of monkeys in one place. However, this is kind of a “you have to see it to believe it” type of thing. At the start of this video, we are taken to Lopburi in Thailand. 

At the start of the video, we can see hundreds of monkeys overtaking the street immediately. We see that are cars are slowly moving along, while others are completely stopped because they cannot get through. As the camera pans, we can see that there are thousands of monkeys crawling everywhere. It seems that they are pouring in from every possible angle imaginable. 

Suddenly, at 29 seconds, someone throws a piece of food in the middle, and we see the craziest collection of monkeys all coming into the middle like never before seen. 

What’s a Common Monkey in Thailand?

Thailand is home to over 13 species of monkeys. And while we might see a variety of monkeys within those species, the most common monkey is the macaque. This funny-looking fellow can be found in Africa and Asia. Their population status is labeled as unknown. Their conservation status is labeled least concern to endangered. 

These monkeys are brown, red, black, white, and tan in appearance. They can weigh up to 40 pounds and are omnivores. They are known to eat things such as fruit, seeds, leaves, flowers, bark, and insects.
