Many astrology enthusiasts consult the stars anytime they meet someone new, whether that person is a friend or a romantic interest. Some people even consult astrology to find out more about their relationships with coworkers and bosses. There are a few different ways to see how compatible you might be with someone. You can simply look at their natal astrology chart or do a synastry chart, which provides a side-by-side comparison of two peoples’ natal charts. A composite astrology chart is another way to compare the astrology of two people to gain insight into the potential relationship.

What Does a Composite Astrology Chart Consist Of?

A composite chart looks different from a synastry chart. A synastry chart has two different charts on it. A composite chart only has one. How could that be a comparison of two charts? When astrologers make a composite astrology chart, they actually take each person’s natal information and create a new chart that finds the mathematical middle point of each planet, luminary, angle, and asteroid in both peoples’ original chart. Some people say that a composite chart is more like the chart of the relationship than a chart that compares two separate people.

How to Read a Composite Astrology Chart

When looking at a composite chart, the interpretations are slightly different only because you are reading the chart of a relationship, not a person. For example, Mercury’s placement in your own natal chart represents your communication style and intellect. Mercury’s placement in a composite chart represents how communication flows in the relationship.

The important elements in a composite astrology chart depend on what type of relationship you’re analyzing.

The following are the most salient features of a composite chart for romance. However, the whole chart also has bearing on the relationship.

  • Sun – Represents how and where the relationship shines. It represents the overall personality of the relationship.
  • Moon – This has to do with where the relationship emotionally satisfies both participants.
  • Ascendant – Represents how the relationship looks to other people and how it shows up in the world.
  • Venus – Shows the relationship’s level and style of commitment.
  • 1st House – Planets in the 1st House of a composite astrology chart represent the overall identity of the relationship.
  • 5th House – Composite 5th House placements show how romance and playfulness come into the relationship.
  • 7th House – The 7th House represents long-term partnerships and marriage or life-long commitments.
  • 8th House – In composite charts, the 8th House represents the sex life of the relationship and any secrets.

If you plan to live together with a partner and have a family, other placements and houses will come into play such as:

  • 2nd House – The 2nd House shows how a relationship uses its resources and the overall values of the relationship.
  • 4th House – In a composite chart the 4th House shows how the relationship creates a home and family.

While the whole composite astrology chart should be considered when it comes to friendships, some particularly important placements to consider include the same as in a romantic relationship minus the 5th, 7th, and 8th Houses, in addition to:

  • 3rd House – This represents how the relationship shows up in a local environment. If this is a long-distance friendship, you might want to look at the 9th House instead for long-distance travel.
  • 11th House – This house represents how the relationship interacts with other friends and groups.

When reviewing a composite chart for a relationship with a co-worker or boss, the Sun, Moon and Rising Sign and placement remain important as always. Other things to look at include:

  • Mars – Mars shows how the relationship takes action and leadership in a composite chart.
  • Jupiter – Jupiter represents the luck of the relationship and where it feels expansive and abundant.
  • Saturn – In a composite astrology chart, Saturn represents how the relationship works hard and where it feels restricted and boundaried.
  • 6th House – The 6th House represents the daily work and routines of the relationship.
  • 10th House – The 10th House shows information about the legacy of the relationship and the overall career choice.

When looking at all these elements and houses, you will also want to note aspects between planets to further understand the chart.

Can You Create a Composite Chart for More Than 2 People?

Yes, it is actually possible to create a composite chart for more than two people. It is possible to do so using the multi-composite chart option on Astro-Dienst, or by consulting an astrologer who can make the chart themselves. This option is great for unconventional relationships like triads, friend groups, and groups of coworkers.

Should You Use a Composite or Synastry Chart?

When looking at a relationship, either option, composite or synastry, will work to give you information about a relationship. They each do different things. A synastry chart compares two birth charts, and a composite chart reveals a new chart that represents the overall relationship. You can also use both a synastry chart and a composite chart to get a complete picture of both people and the relationship as a whole.
