A coyote was found trapped in a Chicago grocery store on Monday morning. It was first spotted in an ALDI parking lot earlier that day and somehow wedged itself under a produce cooler later that morning. Officials sifted through cheeses and dairy products to rescue the coyote from the shelves. A video recording of the entire incident quickly went viral. Millions of internet users watched animal control chaotically pull the coyote out from under the cooler.
The coyote was transferred to Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, where it will receive a check-up and undergo minor recovery procedures before being released back into the wild. When mating season arrives between January and March, coyote activity increases, leading to more encounters with humans. Officials advise the public to avoid approaching coyotes or leaving food out for them to find.
