Currently, the largest house in Kansas is the mansion called the “Spirit of Avalon.” This massive mansion is over 18,000 square feet and has been added onto over the years. It’s located in Lake Quivira, Kansas, at 5225 Renner Road.

This mansion stands out for several reasons. It easily dwarfs most other Kansas mansions, offering plenty of room for social gatherings and extravagant living.

The house even features a 35-foot deep pool complete with underwater tunnels, caves, and cliffs. It’s made for diving, not just swimming. The diving tunnel even features fossils. There is a full equipment room for SCUBA enthusiasts.

Beyond the diving pool, there are plenty of other amenities, too. For instance, there is a private gym, theater room, and many outdoor spaces. While the outdoor spaces aren’t included in the home’s square footage, there are miles of walking trails around the house.

This house is listed as the most expensive home in Kansas at $10.9 million. You can see a full 3D home tour on the realtor’s website, though this doesn’t include all the property. For instance, there is a carriage house connected to a detached garage that has 1 bedroom and a kitchen.

This mansion is based on European contemporary mansions, with plenty of artistic flair.

Of course, there are other large houses in Kansas, even if they don’t beat the Spirit of Avalon.

The Wichita Mansion

The Wichita Mansion is a huge home with around 4,598 square feet. The space includes 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. It was built in 1909 and isn’t close to the largest. However, it is still pretty large, comparatively.

It’s located in Wichita’s Park Place, where it gets its name. It’s a neoclassical mansion, and it is easily considered one of the most beautiful homes in the city. However, it isn’t nearly as big as the Spirit of Avalon, as we discussed above.

The Leawood Mansion

The Leawood Mansion is around 12,000 square feet. However, there is a lot more secretiveness surrounding this mansion than the others, so information is harder to find. It has an indoor basketball court and sauna, which is why it is so large.

The expansive home has many bedrooms and bathrooms, a home theater, and swimming pools. The whole ground is landscaped and offers plenty of space to walk. As you might guess, there are also lots of luxurious finishes and high-end technology throughout the house.

Homestead of Marienthal

The Homestead of Marienthal isn’t the largest in terms of square footage. However, it is significant due to its history and architectural features. It was built in 1877 by Peter and Katherine Funk, who were German immigrants from Russia. It’s also Kansas‘ oldest continuously inhabited dwelling.

This homestead was part of the larger community of Volga Germans, who were in the area seeking religious freedom. This homestead has endured many hardships, including intense isolation and harsh weather. It remained in the Funk family until it was acquired by the Marienthal Museum Society in 2003.
