So, technically, the secret swing at Elysian Park isn’t really a secret. It’s just not the most accessible option and not the most well-known feature of the park. What makes it magical is the stunning views the swing offers. Kick off the side of the hill where you board and swing out over the valley, taking in the stunning views all around. Off in the distance, if you have a good eye, you can even see the Hollywood sign on the far off hills.

The secret swing at Elysian Park lists prominently on Google Maps but it’s still a bit hard to find. This is particularly true because the swing isn’t always there. As of last notes from local folks looking for the swing, some report the swing is back, while others say the swing is gone.

If you’re adventurous enough to go find out for yourself, plug in the GPS coordinates of 34.085333 — 118.234580 to find out. Hikers report a slippery, rocky trail leads to the swing’s location. You’ll need to walk along the road, down a hill, and the head to the trailhead leading your there. Folks say the best directions on your phone will pop up if you search for “Swing on top of Elysian Park.” This should lead you directly to the trailhead. Be warned that you’ll share the road with vehicles as you make your way there. If you need to drive, plug in the intersection of Angels Point Drive and Park Row Drive, Elysian Park. Only 5 parking spots exist there, so folks often opt for other parking instead.

The trail is only about 5-minutes for those capable of climbing, but it is a steep trail. Wear proper footwear for the climb, with decent traction to prevent slipping.

Why Was the Secret Swing at Elysian Park Removed?

Reports suggest that the secret swing at Elysian Park was removed in 2020. Some then state that the swing came back in 2021. Then, it apparently disappeared again in 2022. Each time the swing disappears and returns, it looks a little bit different. No one seems to know exactly why it disappears and returns after months or years of absence, though. One could assume it’s for repairs of some kind, but why take months or years to replace it then? Perhaps it just adds to the mystery of the “secret.” But do be aware that the swing may not be there if you decide to hike up to find it.
