Tallest Waterfall in Georgia

Amicalola Falls is the tallest flowing waterfall in Georgia, standing at 729 feet. Among the most visited state parks in Georgia is Amicalola Falls State Park because of its breathtaking beauty and hiking paths.

This stunning state park is located in the southern Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, within the verdant, waterfall-filled Chattahoochee National Forest. It’s one of the most well-known and frequently visited state parks in Georgia, and with a legitimate reason.

There are various options for guests to choose from in order to have the greatest perspective of the raging waters, from an easy approach to a difficult trail with ladders. The Canyon Climbers Club of the park is open to anyone who attempts the latter. 

The southern terminus of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain, is reached from the park via an 8.5-mile trail. There are many more paths that offer shorter day treks. Amicalola Falls State Park is open daily during the daytime all year round. 

A $5 GA State Park Pass is required for all cars entering Amicalola State Park. A $50 Annual Park Pass is accessible at the Lodge or Visitor’s Center and can save money for frequent park visitors. Passes are valid for a year after the date they are purchased.

Getting to Amicalola Falls

The nearest developed road connection to the southern end of the Appalachian Trail is at this magnificent waterfall, which is 7.5 miles away from Springer Mountain. From the top of this cascade, the AT Approach Trail leads to the summit of Springer Mountain. 

The Appalachian Trail’s 2000+ mile, epic trip north toward Maine begins at Springer, where hundreds of AT thru-hikers undertake the hike each year. The Hike Inn Trail is another well-traveled trail that leaves from the top of this enormous waterfall. The Len Foote Hike Inn is a wilderness inn that can only be reached via hike, and this trail weaves through lovely woodland to get there.

To see the most beautiful vistas in the park, take a hike around the Amicalola Falls Loop trail. The journey starts beneath a stone arch honoring the Appalachian Trail, ascends to a ridge with breathtaking vistas, and then descends a flight of stairs that are flanked by a massive, cascading waterfall.

From the park’s entrance, you can take a 604-step climb up to our viewing platform, stopping halfway there. You are then free to return down the steps or follow our East Ridge route, which is just over two miles in length, for a leisurely stroll through the woods.

Wildlife Around Amicalola Falls 

There are countless adventures waiting for you as you enter the 829-acre park! The breathtaking vistas and extensive selection of activities that are suitable for large groups are a big draw for locals and tourists. 

The season affects the kind of species that are at Amicalola Falls State Park. The woodland inhabitants include deer, raccoons, opossums, owls, hawks, snakes, black bears, and squirrels, to mention a few.

Visitors used to be able to visit Amicalola Deer Park after admiring the splendor of Amicalola Falls and the park. This location was enjoyable for gatherings of all ages. Prior to closing, it was a genuinely exceptional way to get up close and personal with the native species of northern Georgia.
