Have you ever wondered which zipline is the fastest in the world? The world’s fastest zipline is the Velocity 2 in Bethesda, Wales. While on this zipline, riders lay flat, superman style, and zipline over a deep blue lake with top speeds of over 100 mph. The Velocity 2 is over 500 feet off the ground! It’s been the fastest zipline in the world since 2013! According to the zipline’s website, it soars over Penrhyn Quarry and is nearly a mile long. The zipline adventure has a duration of about 2 hours and provides stunning views of Snowdonia.

About Bethesda, Wales

Bethesda is a town in Wales known for having the fastest zipline in the world. This town is in North Wales and sits on the banks of Afon Ogwen and the edge of Snowdonia. The population is around 4,000. Previously, the town was known as Cilfoden and Glanogwen. However, the current name is inspired by the Bethesda Chapel, rebuilt in 1840. Like other towns in the area, it was a significant slate quarrying town. Notable people with ties to this town/community include Bobby Atherton, Bethan Gwanas, Idris Foster, and Leila Megàne.

Best Time to Visit Bethesda

Bethesda receives a few hundred visitors every year, mainly for the world-record zipline. Still, even apart from the zipline, this town is stunning and features many scenic views. The best time to visit Bethesda and other parts of northern Wales is between April and late August. The summer season is great if you want to spend time exploring outdoors. However, you can also visit during the low-peak season in the fall.

Things to do in and near Bethesda

So, what is there to do in this town apart from ziplining? When visiting, you aren’t stuck only ziplining, you can also explore the charming town. Within Bethesda, tourists can visit the Neuadd Ogwen, a concert hall and community arts center. While here, you can catch a local show.

Although not directly within Bethesda, the Penrhyn Castle & Garden is well worth a visit. This lovely castle is within Gwynedd County.

Another unique place to visit near Bethesda is the National Slate Museum within the Padarn Country Park in Llanberis. It was established in 1972 and includes important locomotives from Welsh quarries.

Wildlife near the World’s Fastest Zipline

While visiting Gwynedd County and the world’s fastest zipline, you may encounter lots of different wildlife. Common animals in the area include herring gulls, European robins, red foxes, brown hares, common wall lizards, smooth newts, and European toads. Plants are also abundant in and near Bethesda. While here, you may see bell Heathers, red clovers, sycamore maples, and European goldenrods.
