Ocean Drive

Cue the neon lights and the colorful Art Deco buildings. Driving down Ocean Drive is an experience. Famous for its art deco buildings, which have been portrayed in many movies in television series, Ocean Drive is one of the different places portrayed in GTA 6. Ocean Drive is home to the most photographed Art Deco Hotel, which is the Colony Hotel that was constructed in 1939. It is now a boutique hotel that has been featured in a multitude of movies and TV shows. Furthermore, another hotel that is featured in GTA 6 is the Clevelander Hotel. 

The street is part of the Miami Art Deco District and there are about 900 preserved buildings. The street is also home to Casa Casuarina, home to the late fashion designer Gianni Versace, who was assassinated right at the gates outside his home. Because of its Art Deco-style buildings, Ocean Drive is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Miami Beach

Miami Beach is part of the metropolitan area of Miami, FL. In the first scene of the GTA 6 trailer, the main character, Lucia, is in prison. The next shot features the famous tall buildings next to the beach. Miami Beach is man-made and there are barrier islands separating the city of Miami from the Atlantic Ocean.

Although its population is about 82,000, Miami Beach has a lot of history and is the main focal point of tourism. But Miami Beach is more than just white sandy beaches and having fun in the water. The beach resort town has numerous Art Deco buildings and the Art Deco District has the most Art Deco buildings in the world.

One of the most famous parts of Miami Beach is South Beach. South Beach has been featured in numerous movies and television series. There are numerous things to do in South Beach which include The Versace Mansion, the Jewish Museum of Florida, and the Fontainebleau Hotel.

Wynwood

One of the GTA 6 trailer shots is a camera pan through Miami’s neighborhood, Wynwood. Wynwood is known for having a variety of restaurants, bars, shopping areas, and many murals covering the walls of its buildings (and sidewalks, too). The neighborhood is north of downtown Miami and it even has three subdivisions of its own —  the Wynwood Art District, the Wynwood Fashion District, and the newer Wynwood Technology District.

Also called a little San Juan or El Barrio, there are many Puerto Rican immigrants in this neighborhood. They immigrated to the area starting in the 1950s. That’s why you see many Puerto Rican-owned restaurants, stores, and businesses throughout the streets of this neighborhood. Various art galleries and famous art museums are located in Wynwood.

Everglades

GTA 6 features several shots of the Everglades, including one where there are flamingos in their natural habitat. Located in the bottom half of the State of Florida, the Everglades is an area that contains flooded grasslands. They are, in a way, a tropical type of swampland. Furthermore, the Everglades are extremely biodiverse and many animals live in the region, including alligators. Humans did live in the region including the Calusa and Tequesta tribes. However, the number of tribal members living in the region started to decrease after the Spanish colonized Florida.

The Everglades have started to experience droughts more and more frequently because of the development that has killed much of the natural habitats in the region. This deterioration received a lot of attention from environmental organizations throughout the years. This is why the Everglades National Park was established.

Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are also featured in GTA 6 in a shot. The Florida Keys are an archipelago located off the coast of Florida. Many people drive down from Miami to the Florida Keys on the Florida Keys Scenic Highway. It’s the only Highway that goes through the entire Florida Keys where there are a total of 1,700 islands. Key West is the last of the islands. Furthermore, it is home to a lot of history, coral reefs, and the former homes of President Harry S. Truman and author Ernest Hemingway.

The Florida Keys used to be home to the Overseas Railway, an ambitious project Henry Flager initiated that operated until the 1935 Labor Day hurricane destroyed most of the railroad. Today, the Overseas Highway is in its place, running from Key Largo to Key West.

Kaseya Center

The Kaseya Center is featured in the GTA 6 trailer only for a few seconds, but easily recognizable. Located in Biscayne Bay in Miami, Kaseya Center, which was known as Miami-Dade Arena and other names before it was bought by the company Kaseya, is the home of the NBA’s Miami Heat. Moreover, the WNBA team Miami Sol played at the arena from 2000 to 2002 before they were dismantled. The arena opened on December 31, 1999, and inside, it houses a multitude of things like an indoor theater and offices. The first event held at the arena was a Gloria Estefan concert. The first game played was a Miami Heat versus Orlando Magic basketball game held on January 2, 2000.

Collier County

Home to about 375,000 people, Collier County is also featured in the trailer for GTA 6. Part of the Everglades is located in Collier County, as well as the Big Cypress National Preserve, the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, and the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Humans settled in what is today Collier County a few thousand years ago. The people living in the region when the Spanish arrived were called the Calusa Tribe.

The county was founded in 1923 and was named for Barron Collier. He was an advertising and real estate developer from New York City who moved to Florida. Collier County was the center of the Florida invasive snake epidemic in 2016, where the government captured about a ton of snakes.
