When we think of dangers coming to animals like sheep, deer, or goats we typically think of vicious predators. Predators such as wolves, coyotes, or lions. However, there are other dangers out there, like harsh elements in the wild and manmade structures. Let’s see what happens in the video above when this young fawn cries for help after it gets stuck in a well.

Fawn Fell In Well

The short YouTube clip at the top of this blog post shares footage of a fawn, a young deer, who fell into a well and can’t get out. The We Love Animals YouTube page saw this viral video and couldn’t resist sharing it with their subscribers. To this day, it has received more than one million views. This channel is committed to sharing feel-good stories of people and animals such as dogs, antelope, sheep, and gorillas.

Couple Saves Deer

As the video starts, we see a couple on their gorgeous property. They are walking towards their stone brick house because they hear little bleating cries. The woman filming her husband walking in front says, “Yeah, a baby is crying over here. Like a baby deer, we can hear it.”

The Wisconsin Human Society states, “A fawn that is crying (“bleating”) is calling for its mother. It may do this because it is a young fawn that has missed a feeding or two and is very hungry, or it may be an older fawn that has become separated from its mother.”

Sure enough, when this couple got close, they saw this fawn had fallen into their well. She was calling out to her mother to rescue her. Once the man bends down to pick her up, it is clear this fawn is a newborn and can’t be a few weeks, if not a few days old.

They turn to let the fawn down, and that is when they see the mother deer on the road. It’s as if she is waiting to see if these people will harm her fawn. Once the couple sets the fawn on the grass, she runs to her mother. And the mother starts running up and down the road, leaping up and down because she’s so excited.

How High Can a Deer Jump?

The heartwarming moment when this mother deer jumped for joy was enough thanks this couple needed. It was surprising how fast this deer was running and jumping clear into the air to show her excitement.

Depending on the species, deer (Odocoileus virginiana) can run up to 40 miles per hour fast! This helps them to get a great head start on how high they can jump. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says, “An adult deer can easily jump 7 ft. or higher and squeeze through small gaps in vertical or horizontal slatted fences.” There are even those who say that some deer can even jump that high without even running!

So, as we can see, a deer that can jump higher than even the tallest of basketball players was enough to impress this couple! Not only did they save the fawn from certain death by being stuck, but they also got a show from her mother at the end.
