When we think of fights happening in Africa naturally, we think of fights happening out in the plains. Where there is no hope to run because there is nowhere to hide. However, for some animals in the wild, they have the safety of going underground. Their burrows offer safety and protection against wild predators who would otherwise seek to kill them. However, sometimes, a predator’s hunger is so fierce that they will dig far into a burrow to get the meal that they desperately need. And we see this example happen in the video at the end of this blog post.

Pondoro Game Lodge Findings

This next YouTube video posted below takes us to the Pondoro Game Lodge located in South Africa. Where a wildlife enthusiast captures amazing footage of a lion fighting with a warthog underground, this great hunt ended up with a warthog hiding in his burrow and this lioness fighting for the right to have this meal.

At the start of this YouTube video, we see a lioness that has already stuck her head underground. While we don’t know at the start of this video what is below, we later find out that in this hideout is a warthog. At this point, the warthog has no choice but to go as far in as it possibly can. There is no possibility of escape now. And his back is quite literally up against the wall.

If we pause the video at 21 seconds, we see this lion rush in and start fiercely attacking the warthog in this burrow. This lioness quite literally has the higher ground, and the advantage is on her side. At one minute 25 seconds, we see this lioness has pulled this warthog out in full. And it is at this point we see just how brutal this fight was. The lioness and warthog are covered in blood.

As kings of the jungle, there are many things to fear about the lion. One of them being the bite force of a lion. Lions have 30 different teeth. Of these 30 teeth, 12 of them are incisors, 4 are canine, and 14 are carnassials.

According to Thomsons Safaris, they state that lions can have a bite force of “650 PSI”. However, they recently updated their research by saying that the bite force is showing to be more like “1,000 PSI.”
