When tackling a quick repair project, the last thing you expect to see is a crocodile. Unless the reptile is followed by two friends! That’s exactly what happened in this video.
Workers in India found three crocodiles when they started to remove sections of a cracked sidewalk. They were first called because someone heard a strange noise from the area, so they were ready to encounter wildlife. Fortunately, they had plenty of help and the right tools on hand.
The video below shows the crowd keeping the three reptiles contained. As one person holds the first in place, another emerges from below. Both animals thrash around, trying to get to a clear area. Crocodiles can be aggressive, especially when they feel cornered or threatened. Taking on these three giants was no easy feat. With so many people there, however, it’s important for both bystanders and the crocodiles that they are kept under control until they are relocated to a safe area.
The first crocodile to come out was kept in place with a long-handled tool that went around its snout. The animal tried to roll and free itself. This is called a death roll. Crocodiles often perform this maneuver when holding prey, rolling them underwater quickly in order to kill them. But the men were ready, dressed in protective boots and gear. Some of the other onlookers in the crowd were wearing casual sneakers. The end of the video shows them lifting their feet as one of the crocodiles got too close for comfort.
Where Do Crocodiles Live?
Crocodiles live across many continents, including the subcontinent of India. They look for places to live and often prefer brackish or salt water. These were living underneath a section of concrete that was torn up. No one knows how they got there, but clearly, the crocodiles were able to survive. When captured, they were strong enough to put up a fight as they tried to get away. One managed to sneak away to the corner of the video toward the crowd.
These animals eat insects, amphibians, such as frogs and lizards, and even small mammals. They were likely able to survive on small animals that they found under and around the concrete. In populated areas, crocodiles can become a danger to pets and even children. Because they are aggressive hunters, removing them safely from areas with a lot of people is necessary. Relocating them to a suitable natural habitat is also good for the crocodiles.
