A trine is one of the five major aspects of astrology. Trines are generally thought of as beneficial or easeful. When two planets are trine to each other, the energy flows because trines are generally formed between two signs of the same element.

Trines are different from the other “easeful” aspects—conjunctions and sextiles. In a trine, the two planets involved are 120° apart, rather than 0°, as in a conjunction, or 60°, as in a sextile. With trines, energy flows so easily that the person in question may not be aware of the ease with which they approach a particular area of life. This can lead to an imbalance; essentially, too much of a good thing.

Natal Mercury Trine Aspects in Astrology

Mercury is the planet of intellect and communication. It rules over how we process information and disseminate it, as well as our overall communication style. In our communication-heavy society, Mercury may determine a lot of what people see about us when they first meet us. Planets trine to Mercury in the natal chart affect your intelligence and communication. They may indicate whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, whether you love or hate school, and what topics you enjoy learning about, among other things.

With Mercury trining your Moon, the seat of your emotions and intuitions, it’s easy for you to communicate about what you are feeling. You easily align what you’re saying to your inner world. Because of this, you come off as trustworthy and friendly. Some Mercury trine aspects make you a good communicator, but not a good listener. Luckily, this one gives you both gifts, allowing you to hold space for others in addition to communicating about yourself.
