In astrology, the planet Saturn rules over the signs Capricorn and Aquarius. Since it was the last planet visible to the naked eye, Saturn has earned a reputation for being cold, dark, and intimidating. It is also known for representing discipline and personal responsibility. Additionally, the planet signifies many of the limiting and restricting forces in our lives. In comparison to the planet Jupiter, which is said to expand things, Saturn is all about constricting. While this may make the planet seem like a depressing force in our lives, it is all for good reason.

The glyph, or symbol, that is associated with Saturn is the lowercase letter “h” with a line drawn through it that ends up forming a cross. The overall shape then takes on the appearance of a scythe or sickle. If you look closely, it is actually the symbol of Jupiter inverted. The glyph is intended to symbolize the passage of time and even of life. The planet has even been noted as symbolizing “Father Time”, as he represents the maturity and wisdom that comes with age. Overall, Saturn personifies the challenges and lessons that we must all overcome in order to grow and evolve into our best selves. Saturn encourages us to have long-term plans that are based on reality so that we may create a solid foundation on which to base our lives.
