See How to Calm Down an Angry Hedgehog in Seconds, Going From Spiky to Smiley

Have you ever seen a child get angry about something really quick out of nowhere? Perhaps someone sat in their seat, took one chip out of their chip bowl, or picked up a toy lying around. Regardless of the reason, they get angry, and then we, as adults, do something to make them laugh. And within a second, this child is smiling. Well, something similar to this happens but to an angry, but yet completely adorable, hedgehog. Don’t miss it below!

Angry Hedgehog Sighting 

This video of the angry hedgehog comes to us from the YouTube page Mr. Hedgie. This channel was created in 2017 to share adorable videos of this person’s tiny hedgehog. Sadly, the very famous Mr. Hedgie died just a few short years ago in 2020. This YouTube has now turned into a commemoration of sorts to celebrate the life of this hedgehog. 

Hedgehog Getting Angry and then Relaxing

The start of this video, posted just at the top of this blog post, shows this hedgehog curled up into a ball. He is angry about something. Perhaps he didn’t have an afternoon snack. Regardless, we can see that his spikes are pointier because they are more spread out. 

Hedgehog Care 101 states that “Since the quills are more spread, they will become sharper to the touch. Though the quills should not break through your skin, they could be more painful to touch.” And this person was careful not to touch anywhere around this hedgehog’s body that might poke them.

Suddenly, his owner begins to rub the top of his head gently. We see the hedgehog begin to open up more. Mr. Hedgie’s owner then does small circles on the very tip of his head. Now Mr. Hedgie is all smiles; he seems to like this gentle touch from someone who loves and cares for him. 

We were saddened to hear about Mr. Hedgies passing a few years ago. And it makes us more aware that animals don’t live forever. But just how long do they live for? 

How Long Do Hedgehogs Live?

Hedgehogs of the family Erinaceidae live in Europe, Eurasia, Africa, and Asia. There are estimated to be about 16 different species of hedgehogs. However different the species of this animal can be, they are quite small animals. Hedgehogs weigh anywhere from 1-4 pounds (.45-1.8 kilograms). 

These little guys are known to only live between 2-8 years. Dr. Keller from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Illinois offers her expertise. “With appropriate care and keeping, your hedgehog will live about five years, and some even live longer than eight years.”

If we do the best we can to take care of the pets that we have, ensuring they eat and exercise right and have a safe and loving place to live, most animals will live to their full life expectancy, just like Mr. Hedgie.
