Kentucky is home to the Kentucky Derby, over 90 bourbon distilleries, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The state’s largest cities are Louisville and Lexington. Likewise, Cincinnati, Ohio is separated from Kentucky by the Ohio River, but proximity makes this area a bustling cityscape. While these cities are the largest in the state, there are quite a number of towns that are quickly developing and seeing an increase in population growth. Check out the seven fastest growing towns in Kentucky that everyone is talking about.

1. Georgetown

Georgetown, Kentucky is one of the fastest-growing towns in the state. With its close proximity to Lexington, it is an attractive destination for new residents. The small downtown area has over 200 buildings on the National Register for Historic Places, and you can find a variety of shops and restaurants along the small-town streets. Locals are adamant that Georgetown is the true birthplace of bourbon. Rumor has it that Reverend Elijah Craig distilled the first batch of Kentucky bourbon in 1789 by using water from Georgetown’s Royal Spring. Lastly, Georgetown is home to the largest Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in the world, which provides ample employment opportunities for the community. It’s no wonder Georgetown has seen exponential growth over the past few years.

2. Bowling Green

Bowling Green is home to Western Kentucky University, which has helped spawn population growth. In fact, Kentucky’s college towns have experienced growth as a result of the schools and their employment opportunities. In particular, Bowling Green has experienced growth as a result of various manufacturing industries. Even more, the proximity of Louisville and Nashville makes visiting cultural urban centers a breeze. Bowling Green also lays claim to being the ‘Corvette Capitol of the World.’ Southern Living voted it one of ‘The South’s Best Cities on the Rise 2022.’ Between fancy cars, local restaurants, and the area’s natural beauty, Bowling Green certainly lives up to its praise.

3. Richmond

Historic Richmond is another draw to live in this quickly growing town in Kentucky.

Richmond, Kentucky, another college town, is also on the rise. The presence of Eastern Kentucky University and an expanding healthcare industry make Richmond a top contender as one of the state’s fastest-growing towns. With its historic downtown and a rising arts scene, Richmond is definitely a quaint place to call home.

4. Nicholasville

Nicholasville, Kentucky is one of the fastest-growing towns in the state, and it boasts a lovely mix of rural and suburban. Strategically located near Lexington, the lower cost of living makes Nicholasville a prime location that individuals are flocking to. The town’s historic significance, music heritage, and scenic beauty make Nicholasville a great home for families and young professionals.

5. Independence

Located in Northern Kentucky, this small town has seen substantial growth in recent years. The small-town vibe with close proximity to Cincinnati makes Independence an ideal place for those commuting to the city. The town sits 15 minutes south of Cincinnati and offers urban amenities with a rural feel. Independence has also been ranked as the 99th fastest-growing city in the nation. 6. Florence

Florence, like Independence, is a great suburban area, directly outside of the Cincinnati epicenter.

Similar to Independence, Florence is another thriving town near Cincinnati. This Kentucky town has seen rapid growth as a result of its proximity to an urban area, excellent school systems, and a bustling business scene. Being close to a major airport also makes traveling a breeze. Florence is home to unique shops and experiences, such as Churchill’s Bourbon & Brew Bar & Grille. Of course, being so close to Cincinnati helps.

7. Elizabethtown

The last town on this list is Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Conveniently located right off Interstate 65, this town connects major cities such as Louisville and Nashville. Affordable housing, the Historic State Theater, and gorgeous outdoor amenities make Elizabethtown a major draw to families and young professionals. The town also boasts a thriving job market.
