Even the largest of sledgehammers can weigh almost 20 pounds, approximately the same as the largest number of grapes ever grown! In English, the largest bunch of grapes is a “cluster” and refers to the grapes that grow together on a single vine. With the average weight of grapes weighing anywhere from 80 to 355 grams, the largest cluster of grapes weighs 9,071 grams.

As you can see, this is a big feat in size when you compare it to the average cluster of grapes. However, the new largest bunch of grapes largely surpassed and outdid the current record for the Guinness World Record. So, let’s discover how big the bunch of grapes were, who grew them, and when it happened.

The largest bunch of grapes ever grown was recorded on August 4th, 2018, and was grown by Sebastián Gómez Falcón and Delegación de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Los Palacios y Villafranca. Both of these farmers are from Spain and live in Los Palacios y Villafranca.

Sebastian and Delegacion are farmers who work to cultivate and culture grapes for winemaking. However, due to their success with the 2018 year crop, they entered their successful bunch of grapes into the local agricultural competition. At the competition, they weigh the grapes, leading others to suggest that they apply for the Guinness World Record. Their astounding weight was a record-breaking 22.31 pounds, even more than a sledgehammer!

Breaking the Guinness World Record

While getting any record in the Guinness World Record is a feat, being able to claim you knocked the previous record high is an accomplishment. Sebastian and Delegacion found out that after weighing their grapes, they had beaten the previous world record for the largest grapes ever grown.

Since their success in growing the bunch, they contacted the Guinness World Record. They applied for the Guinness World Record title for the largest bunch of grapes ever recorded. The Guinness World Record confirmed that Sebastian and Delegacion won the new record title.

The previous Guinness World Record for a bunch of grapes weighed 20.72 pounds by a farmer in Chile. Bozzolo Y Perut Ltda, a small grape grower in Santiago, Chile 1984, set the previous record. The bunch of grapes stood as big as the farmer’s torso. It was the largest cluster of grapes the world had ever seen.

Final Thoughts

To think that the world’s largest bunch of grapes ever grown weighed as much as a sledgehammer and is as big as a torso is amazing. The world is a magnificent place, and it’s exciting to see that farmers have been able to produce bigger crops over the years.

With the newest record being nearly two pounds heavier, it is quite the feat in terms of grape cluster sizes. In addition to that, the newest record took nearly 34 years to beat. How long will it take to grow the next largest bunch of grapes?
