Full moons typically occur once a month (rarely twice a month), appearing as a bright, glowing circle in the sky. The moon moves through various stages throughout its 29.5-day cycle, including the new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, and waning crescent. The full moon, however, is arguably the most popular and widely adored phase, as it’s believed to bring potent energy and beautiful scenery. The next full moon will take place on November 27 in the astrological sign of Gemini.

During the next full moon, you might feel especially motivated and curious about your goals and future. Full moons are believed to stir up heightened energy, causing us to feel more emotional or nostalgic. Many people use full moons as a time to release the past and align with their desires.

This article will cover the unique characteristics of the November 27th full moon, including its timing and appearance in the sky.

What Is a Full Moon?

A full moon occurs when the side of the Moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the Sun, making it appear completely full. At this time, the Earth is located between the Sun and the Moon. A full moon typically occurs once per month and follows the waxing gibbous phase of the lunar cycle. During this part of the cycle, the Moon appears to be growing larger, but really, the Sun is just highlighting more of the surface that faces Earth.

In astrology and across the spiritual community, many people believe that full moons represent themes such as abundance, release, and celebration. In fact, in astrology, our moon signs are thought to reflect our emotional, inner worlds. For example, if your moon sign is in the astrological sign of Gemini, you might be more social and curious about others and your own feelings.

Spiritually speaking, the full moon is the time to let go of what no longer serves us. Many people will even host celebrations or rituals during a full moon to commemorate our blessings and release any blocks we are facing.

Date and Timing of the Next Full Moon

The next full moon will take place on November 27 at 4:16 a.m. EST or 9:16 a.m. UTC. Also called the Beaver Full Moon, November’s full moon will occur in the sign of Gemini, making it a curious and energetic moon.

Every month’s moon has its own unique name, which comes from early Native American, Colonial American, and European folklore. The November full moon is named the Beaver Moon because it occurs during the time when beavers prepare for winter. They tend to be especially active during the month of November.  Additionally, it was also a time when people would hunt beavers for fur.

Full Moon Rituals and Celebrations

The full moon is a significant celestial event that has been celebrated for ages. In fact, early Native Americans used the lunar months to record time. This is why each moon has its own name as it relates to the month it falls during.

Many communities will gather to express gratitude and bask in the healing power of the moon. In fact, many communities even collected water to “charge” under the moonlight. This moon water was believed to hold healing qualities that could be used as medicine.

Today, many spiritual individuals choose to honor the full moon by reflecting on their lives and releasing any baggage that is holding them back from growing. This can be achieved through practices like journaling, meditating, taking a bath, and connecting with nature under the moonlight. Specifically, many people will choose to write letters of release to the people or situations they’d like to cut cords with. After writing and reading the letter, some will decide to (safely) burn it with the intention of releasing it to the universe or a higher power.

What to Expect From the Next Full Moon

The Beaver Full Moon in Gemini is a great time to get curious about your emotions and your dreams. In fact, this is the ideal full moon to slow down and work smarter, not harder. Sometimes, we might feel especially emotional or drained during full moons. However, this November full moon is actually thought to bring more healing energy and clarity to the surface. Happy Full Moon!
