1. Iceland

For 14 years, Iceland has been the safest and most peaceful country in the world. The primary reasons this Nordic country experiences a safe environment are its small population, high standard of living, lack of tension between social classes, and a high level of trust in its police department. Further, Iceland protects equality among its citizens and has no military.

2. Denmark

Not only is Denmark the second safest country in the world, it’s also the happiest. This European nation excels at providing a safe and equitable space for its residents, who enjoy free higher education and healthcare. Danish people also enjoy a corruption-free government that makes safety its highest priority. There is very little crime in the country, as early intervention and prevention is a major factor.

3. Ireland

This European country takes third place as the safest country in the world, which is a significant increase from its once 11th spot. 7. Portugal

This Southern European country was once number 18 on the list of safest countries in the world. But it has made great strides to climb the ladder to a safer level. Portugal significantly decreased its unemployment rate and increased its police presence. Both factors drastically reduced crime. Portugal is a friendly and family-centered environment and consistently ranks as one of the best places to retire due to its safety and standard of living.

8. Slovenia

As a mountainous country in Central Europe, Slovenia features a dramatic landscape and excellent quality of life. It became a democratic government in the 1990s and has since greatly improved many areas of life for both residents and visitors. Slovenia is an excellent country for tourism due to the country’s excellent travel security and low crime rate. It also has a stable economy and democracy, giving its citizens a high level of peace and security.  

9. Japan

The Japanese believe in national character and social harmony. They also avoid conflicts and observe a hierarchy in both personal and professional relationships. 10. Switzerland

Switzerland is the tenth safest country in the world, with its biggest offense being petty theft. This European country features a stable economy, a low crime rate, and a democratic government. Its residents are also generally wealthy, enjoy excellent healthcare, and have an overall very high standard of living. And Swiss law is respected among its citizens, giving law enforcement officials the green light on doing their job meticulously.
