When it comes to lions, it’s difficult to imagine that they can be scared of anything. After all, lions don’t have any predators that will naturally hunt them down to eat them. Sure, they have enemies, but few will stand up to them. However, for this sighting in Africa, these lion cubs were a bit terrified of the water.

The next YouTube video posted at the very end of this blog post takes us to the Kruger National Park located in Southern Africa. This video was uploaded by the Maasai Sightings YouTube page. This channel shares footage from around Africa, including the Maasai Mara in Kenya. They share a short description of what happened in this video below.

“The cubs stay close to their mother for the first few months. They are eventually weaned by the age of six months. Females tend to stay with their mothers longer than males. Males will typically stay with their mother until they’re two, while females may stay with their mother in the pride for life. The young cubs were seriously struggling to get close to their mother but could not find any route close to them.”

Lion Cubs Vs. Water

At the start of the video, we see two adult lions on one side of this small river. They are basking in the shade and enjoy the water below. However, across the river, a short way, two small lion cubs are standing on a fallen tree or limb. They are too scared to cross.

We see them attempting to get into the water several times, but each time, they are just too scared. Their caution is well earned because you never know what is lurking under the murky waters in Africa. We had high hopes that by the end of this video, they would be brave enough to attempt the waters. However, they were not.

Do Lions Like Going in Water?

We’re sure you’ve heard that cats don’t like water. Haven’t you ever seen those adorable pictures of cats wet, and they just look like the grumpiest animals in the world? Well, lions as felines are no different.

According to the World Animal Protection Organization, lions can swim. They don’t like to, but they can if they need to. Most of the time, it is out of necessity. They must cross the water to get to where they are going. It’s no wonder these little cubs were afraid.
