A Spearfishing Spectacle

Anyone who dares to dive into the deep blue sea knows there’s a possibility of a shark encounter. Yet, for some, the sport of spearfishing and love for swimming is much too tempting to keep them on land. The three videos we highlight in this article are the most popular great white shark videos featured on our site this year!

In this first one, you get a GoPro perspective of a man as he sits at the edge of his boat, speargun in hand. He slips into the murky blue water and approaches some rocks. He is completely blindsided by a great white shark that comes from his left. His underwater screams are chilling.

The shark moves away from him once he notices it but comes back again, curiously aggressive. The man’s muffled screams pierce through and the shark makes a sharp left after its approach. After swimming only a few feet away, it disappears in the cloudiness of the water. Watch the full encounter and learn more about this man’s experience in the link below.

Lurking Below the Surface

In this next clip, a child enjoys time on a boogie board, not realizing that only a few feet behind him, a great white shark is lurking. It seems to be deeper underwater at first, and as it approaches the boy, it gets closer to the surface. This is an incredible aerial shot of a breathtaking encounter — luckily, the boy was none the wiser and didn’t panic.

As far as he was concerned, it was just an awesome day out on the water. The shark gets so close that the boy’s splashes reach the shark’s nose. Just as effortlessly as the shark swam up to him, it loses interest and swims away. Watch the full video and appreciate just how big this shark is in comparison to the boy in the link below.

This final encounter is a little different. Colossus is the shark in this video, and the interaction, although facilitated by humans, demonstrates how sharks hunt seals. The video explains how great whites have adapted to breaching out of the water to perfect their hunting skills.

The team notes that they don’t know if Colossus knows how to breach. The team on site is using a decoy to see how Colossus behaves. Watch the spectacular moment when Colossus leaps out of the water. These surprise attacks are a fantastic way for great whites to catch their prey. The video shows the moment in slow motion so you can fully appreciate the shark’s power.
