In battles over territory, lions sometimes turn their lethal combat abilities against other lions rather than prey, as demonstrated by the notorious Mapogo coalition that dominated 250 square miles of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. This fearsome group earned their reputation as one of the most violent lion coalitions ever documented by killing approximately 100 rival lions during their reign.
