Sometimes, it seems like there is an eternal rivalry between cats and dogs. They may both capture our attention equally and even hold equal places in our hearts, but these two species are often at odds. At worst, they can be openly hostile toward each other. And yet, many pet owners will suggest the opposite when asked about the relationship between their dog and cat. Take this heartwarming TikTok video featuring a cat and several dogs. As the video explains, Luna the cat was raised with farm dogs, making her one of the most fearless, dog-like felines ever caught on video.

The relationship between dogs and cats is often a result of how they were raised. Dogs have an instinct to chase animals that flee and are smaller than they are. Cats do this, too, but dogs are usually bigger. Meanwhile, cats that stand their ground by hissing or swiping can make dogs just as fearful. However, these instincts and tendencies can be tempered with proper behavioral training. Dogs and cats get along well when raised together in households that reward prosocial behavior. Some dog and cat siblings like each other so much that they prefer each other’s company over members of their own species. This might be the case with Luna, who is one of the most puppy-like cats we have ever seen. Let’s learn more about her background and how she grew into just another one of the pups on a farm.

Lady Luna

Luna the Cat means business and is not afraid to defend herself against animals two or three times her size.

She might be one of the smallest animals on the farm, but she has the spirit of the largest. Meet Luna the cat, a tortoiseshell-colored feline who seems to run a small California farm. This TikTok video showing Luna traipsing around the farm and taking care of business has received over 200,000 likes and more than 1,000 comments. That’s likely because the video shows one of the more fearless cats on the internet. Shots show Luna surrounded by massive dogs, rambunctious goats, and other animals, yet she holds her own. When she feels threatened, Luna pushes back against the wet noses in her face. Other times, she sits on the ground without hesitating as massive animals walk next to her. She’s as calm as the eye of a storm.

Any other cat would hesitate, if not outright flee, when faced with the slobbering muzzles of massive farm dogs. The border collies, in particular, seem willing to be confrontational. Luna, however, takes it all in stride. When that fails to get the other animals off her back, she reverts to a well-placed swipe. But she isn’t all swipes and hisses. Luna knows just when to hit and when to hesitate. As the TikTok video illustrates, Luna will hang out with puppies and show them around without extending a single claw. Interestingly, Luna doesn’t really like other cats either. Despite often swiping at other cats, Luna prefers the company of dogs and goats.

The Recon Cat

Luna is nicknamed the Recon Cat because she can scout for predators from vantage points that the farm dogs can’t reach.

Luna is one of the pups, but she is also one of the best sightseers on the farm. That’s why she is known as the “Recon Cat.” Luna is the farm’s first warning system because she can reach higher vantage points than the other animals. This allows her to watch for predators so the dogs can focus on guarding the livestock. When she’s not watching for potential threats out on the horizon, the Recon Cat is acting as the farm’s unofficial deputy.

She takes charge of situations, keeps misbehaving dogs in line, and even helps new puppies adjust to farm life. As seen in some of the farm’s YouTube videos, Luna puts her boxing gloves down once in a while to school the young pups on how to be livestock guardians. She should know, too, as five-year-old Luna was raised by livestock guardian dogs. This makes her wary of, or even outright aggressive toward, other cats. Yet, she is unflinchingly tough when faced with even a monster-sized dog.
