Over the course of a couple of weeks in late September 2023, calls regarding traffic disruptions and property damage were made to Aurora Animal Services and the Aurora Police Department in Aurora, CO.

The nuisance in question was a 400-pound pig that goes by the name “Fred.” After a couple of days of searching, authorities managed to apprehend the pig. Since September 27, Fred has been at the Aurora Animal Shelter.

The field supervisor for Aurora Animal Services said about the situation, “We responded a few times. The first couple of times, we were unable to find what was causing the problems.”

No one has claimed to be his owner. According to officials, the animal is exceptionally affectionate and gentle. They are hopeful that someday his owner will come forward. It’s thought that someone left Fred behind because they were uncertain of what they would do with him when he grew too large.

According to officials, traditional livestock animals, including pigs, are not permitted on most residential estates in Aurora. A farm or any other suitable location would have to be Fred’s ideal everlasting home.

At the time of writing, Fred is listed on the Lost & Found pets on the Aurora Animal Shelter website.

Most individuals immediately picture a certain breed of dog or cat when they envision their dream pet. A pig, on the other hand, might be the best option for people who want more unusual pets. One of the best things about pigs is that they’re incredibly smart!

With the suspicion that Fred was left abandoned due to his size, it’s a good idea for people to be informed before adopting such animals. Although most pet pigs top out at around 200 pounds, they can grow to nearly 1,000 pounds!

Pigs are also sensitive to extreme temperatures. If you live in Colorado, it’s essential to have an indoor space for the piggy when winter hits. The rise of social media has caused many people to get a pig when they’re just a piglet

We can’t deny how cute they are, but getting an animal simply in hopes of notoriety on social media is incredibly irresponsible. Some big names on YouTube and Instagram have reportedly abandoned pet pigs in random fields after they grew up.

If at any point you can’t handle the responsibility of the life of an animal, please visit your local animal shelter. They will help the furry, or curly-tailed, friend find a home capable of helping the creature thrive!
