Anyone who has a Golden Retriever in their life likely already understands how lucky they are to spend time around such a fantastic dog. Golden Retrievers are recognized for being lovingly affectionate, incredibly intelligent, and fiercely loyal. They’re gentle around children and they’ve got a striking gold-colored coat of fur to snuggle up against. Golden Retrievers are easy dogs to train, which is why they’re considered such hot commodities in the pet adoption world. There aren’t many cons that come along with owning a Golden Retriever aside from the fact that they get easily bored, they shed, and they drool. Anyone who can get past those minuscule negatives will have a wonderful experience owning a Golden Retriever. When it comes to giving these lovably loyal dogs the perfect name, there are plenty of different directions a dog owner can go in. Here are some great Golden Retriever name suggestions for male and female pups.

Buddy

Buddy is probably one of the most obvious names for a male Golden. When you think about the most famous Golden to ever live, the famous dog who starred in the first Air Bud film is named Buddy. In the first film, Buddy is a talented basketball star who joined a basketball team even though he is a canine. The movie was so precious and inspiring back in 1997 that multiple Air Bud movies followed suit thanks to Disney. The other Air Bud movies focused on various sports like volleyball, baseball, and soccer. The whole time, Buddy stole the show with his main character’s energy. What a name!

Goldilocks

The story of Goldilocks is slightly problematic since it’s about a little girl who showcases her rebellious side. She stumbles into a house she doesn’t belong in and starts poking around in places where she shouldn’t. Still, this is a name that would work well with a female Golden. Your female Golden might not eat up three pots of porridge, make dents in three different chairs, or fall asleep in three different beds that belong to bears – but this charming name is still worth considering.

Sunshine

Sunshine is a sweet and winning name for a Golden that is gender-neutral. Since this name works for a male or female Golden, it’s your prerogative to make that final call. Thinking about the bright rays of sunshine is super high vibrational. Days with warm weather and clear skies are usually considered more pleasant than days with rainy weather and gloomy skies in comparison. Naming your Golden something that reminds you of the best possible weather days is a perfect idea.

Comet

Comet was another famous canine actor, this one gaining fame as Comet on Full House. The 90s simply wouldn’t have been the same without a show like Full House gracing our TV screens. It premiered in 1987 and went on for eight successful seasons. It tells the story of three little girls being raised by their father and two uncles in Northern California. Comet always added adorable sweetness to every episode he was part of. Naming your own Golden after this canine character would be endearing.

Princess

Gold is a color that correlates with royalty, aristocracy, and distinction. Because of that, a name like Princess makes all the sense in the world for a female Golden. If you’re the type of owner who loves to spoil your pets rotten, go with a name like Princess. It pays homage to the fact that your dog’s fur is the same color as the royal crowns that kings and queens wear. The male version of this name would simply be Prince.

Honey

When you think about a pot of honey, the first color that comes to mind should naturally be gold! Honey is an edible liquid gold that makes everything a little bit sweeter. When you add a spoonful of honey to a mug of hot tea, you instantly know you’re in for a treat. With that in mind, naming your Golden “Honey” symbolizes the fact that they always bring extra sweetness into your life.

The most followed Golden on Instagram is a gorgeous male dog named Tucker. He currently has 3.5 million followers on the ‘gram. His follower list consists of people keeping up with him and all his cute endeavors. For this reason, a name like Tucker is a great option for your male Golden if you want to pull inspiration from one of the most famous dogs on social media today.

Blondie

As obvious as a name like Blondie sounds, it still deserves consideration. After all, Goldens are technically blonde-haired dogs. A name like Blondie calls attention to their stunning coat of fur every time you call them out. A name like Blondie only works when the hair color is light enough to fit the description. A Chocolate Labrador or black-colored Yorkie wouldn’t logically be able to snag a name like Blondie.

Yellow Fellow

A dog name like Yellow Fellow truly only works for a male Golden since it has the word “fellow“ attached. Goldens aren’t exactly yellow, but their golden fur is close enough for a name like this to come to mind. The play on words and the delightful rhyming would make calling out to your Golden a silly and humorous experience every time.

Sandy

The sand you walk across at most beaches matches the color of fur on a golden retriever. This is why a name like Sandy for a female Golden is perfect — especially if you’re a dog owner who lives anywhere near the ocean. Taking your Golden to the beach to let her fur get a tad sandy near the water’s edge while she’s also named Sandy is ironically awesome.

Although not every Barbie for sale at toy stores has blonde hair, the most iconic Barbie dolls are recognized with blonde hair on their heads. Naming your Golden “Barbie” is an easy way for people to know your Golden is a female who reminds you of some of the most quintessential and popular childhood memories of all time.
