Quick Take

  • A golden retriever breaks the “dog vs. mailman” stereotype by greeting the mail carrier with obvious affection instead of aggression.
  • Dog bites on postal workers are a real, year-round issue—largely preventable with responsible pet management (USPS places the responsibility on owners).
  • The safest takeaway: even friendly dogs can react unpredictably to strangers at the door, so secure pets during deliveries (this video is the rare, feel-good exception).

When we talk about a dog and a mailman, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Probably one of those old cartoons we used to watch in the 80s and 90s. The one where the mailman delivers the mail, and a vicious dog runs out of the yard. The dog chases the mailman and ends up biting his rear end. And while we are sure that has happened at least once or twice in real life, this story has a bit of a different ending. Let’s see what happens in the video above between a golden retriever and this mailman.

A Beautiful Friendship

The short YouTube video clip shown at the top of this blog post shares a heartwarming story of an unlikely friendship between a mailman and a golden retriever. The We Love Animals YouTube channel shared this video with its almost 5.5 million subscribers. This page is a dedicated platform to share the beauty of all animals, such as horses, cats, birds, elephants, bucks, sharks, zebras, and giraffes.

Golden Retriever Happy to See Mailman

At the start of the video posted above, this two-year-old golden retriever is out on the carport, eagerly wagging his tail, waiting for his friend to show up. Suddenly, the mailman pops out of his truck, and the dog goes up and rubs himself against the mailman. He is showing him the best love and affection that he can.

According to the American Kennel Club, “Goldens are outgoing, trustworthy, and eager-to-please family dogs, and relatively easy to train.” It’s no wonder that, come rain, shine, snow, or storm, in the video above, this golden retriever was committed to meeting his best friend outside every day.

Do Dogs Bite Mailmen?

The American Kennel Club recognizes 205 dog breeds.

The world is filled with animals that people would consider their favorites, from animals like monkeys, lions, sharks, birds, bears, fish, horses, chickens, and cats. However, the one that takes the number one spot for the most well-loved animal is the dog.

Dogs are amazing and loveable animals that have an intense loyalty that helps us as humans to bond with them. It’s difficult to imagine any animal that we love biting and hurting another human being; however, the reality of it is that it does happen.

The USPS, United States Postal Service shares that biting dogs happen year-round, but it is more common during the hot summer. “It’s serious, but the problem is not the dogs. It’s the owners who neglect to control their pets. And it’s not just big dogs. The little ones can do a lot of damage, too.”

The best thing we can do is make sure our dogs are put up while we know there might be packages or mail delivered. Even though your dog may not be aggressive toward you or your family, they could view outside people as a threat to your safety. But, lucky for this family dog in the video above, they knew he was the best of friends with this mailman, with an unbreakable bond.
