Which Dogs Make the Best Guard Dogs?

A stunning variety of dog breeds is available, but only so many truly have what it takes to be a guard dog. Obviously, German Shepherds and Doberman Pinschers often top the lists of the best canines for the job of protection. Ridgebacks and Rottweilers also offer impressive skills in these areas, too. However, these are merely popular examples and are by no means exhaustive examples! The key to finding the best breed for guard duty lies within the temperament of the animal in addition to the specialization their breed has become renowned for. Individual dogs will vary of course, and dedicated training is required to hone their defensive instincts.

All in all, there are different approaches to finding the right dog to serve as a guardian. Where Do Grizzly Bears Live?

Preferring mountainous forests and chilly tundras, these lumbering beasts usually stick to remote expanses of nature. Although their natural habitat once included plains and deserts, human incursion has driven them to live farther off the beaten path. These powerful animals follow a strict social structure, but will often share a home range with other animals, bears included. However, that’s not to say that disputes don’t happen sometimes when food and mating rights are in question!

At present, their range occurs within the northwestern reaches of North America. The states of Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming are often places grizzlies will call home. Grizzly hotspots include the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, thanks to their preserved regions and wildlife. Western Canada enjoys several populations of grizzly as well, with a majority dwelling within British Columbia.
