Two predators face to face, both staring the other down. This is how the scene is set up for this video posted below. A caiman crocodile or a giant anaconda are animals that no other animal would want to come across. And although the caiman crocodile is much smaller than a giant anaconda, the caiman is not to be overlooked. They are fierce predators with the ability to put up a fight like none other.
How Big are Caiman Crocodiles?
Caiman crocodiles are not all big crocodiles. They range in size anywhere from 6-300 kilograms (13-660 pounds). And their lengths can go anywhere from 1.5-6 meters (4.9-19.7 feet) long.
How Big are Anacondas?
However, that’s not the biggest anacondas can get. The largest anaconda ever recorded weighed an amazing 800 pounds and reached 33 feet long.
The YouTube video posted below takes place in the Ibera National Park in Argentina. This bystander down by the water has come across not only one great predator but two. An enormous anaconda is slithering its way to the edge of this swamp. As it goes to enter, it is met by a caiman crocodile who is not happy to see this large snake.
As they both pause to stare each other down, we see that this crocodile means business. It’s almost as if this crocodile stare is saying, “This is my territory, and you had better not enter.” However, this giant anaconda is not taking this stare seriously. This snake is going to cross this water no matter what.
If we pause this video at 27 seconds, these two predators are so close it almost looks as if they are kissing! This closeness lasted for less than one second. The anaconda quickly got spooked, and we saw him hightail it out of there. The caiman crocodile uses the opportunity to take a snap at this anaconda to let him know that he means business.
The anaconda simply slithers several feet to the water’s edge and then creeps into the water and takes off at fast speeds. The video below ends with us seeing this caiman crocodile slowly start to turn around. He is not happy this anaconda defied him and entered his territory.
Is it Normal for A Caiman to Confront an Anaconda?
Neither the anaconda nor the caiman are particularly aggressive animals, although, like most wild animals, they can be territorial, and should anyone enter their area, they can get aggressive. Additionally, they are both thought of as apex predators, although the anaconda, which will feed on just about anything is more of an opportunistic apex predator.
Both animals are capable of eating one another although they aren’t typically on each other’s menu. As shown in the video, the territorial caiman will let the anaconda know that it’s not welcome in its territory. This is normal behavior for two animals that inhabit the same ecosystem.
