When you go to big cities throughout the world, you’ll see tall buildings everywhere. These skyscrapers adorn the city and when you see the skyline from afar, you see how beautiful the concrete jungle is. These skyscrapers are all over the world, in every continent around the globe. When it comes to Russia, the Lakhta Centre is the country’s tallest building. Let’s take a look at Russia’s tallest building and where it ranks among the world’s giants.

About The Lakhta Centre

The Lakhta Centre is a super-tall skyscraper located in St. Petersburg, Russia. Construction started in 2012 and even before it was finished, it had been designated as the tallest building in Russia and Europe. Finally, in 2019, the Lakhta Centre was completed. It is 1,516 feet tall and has 90 floors total — 87 above ground and 3 below ground.

The Lakhta Center has offices, coworking spaces, a sports center, a conference center, exhibition spaces, and open areas. The building even has a children’s science center and an observation deck located at the top of the building. The skyscraper leads in environmental and green technology.

How Does it Compare to Others?

The Lakhta Centre may be the tallest building in Russia, but it is not the tallest building in the world. Let’s take a look at where it stands in comparison to other buildings in the world.

Russia

The Lakhta Centre is the tallest building in Russia. It surpassed the Federation Towers in 2017 and the building hadn’t even topped out yet. The Federation East Tower is the second-tallest building in Russia, being 1,226 feet tall. The third, fourth, and fifth-tallest buildings are all located in Russia.

Europe

Because Lakhta Centre is the tallest building in Europe, no other building compares to the majesticness of this Russian feat. However, some buildings come close. Besides the Russian buildings, the sixth-tallest building in Europe is the Varso Tower in Warsaw, Poland. It measures a whopping 1,017 feet tall.

Worldwide

There are many tall buildings located in Europe and Asia, especially in China and the Middle East. But none of them compare to the tallest building in Asia and the world. Completed in 2010, the Burj Khalifa is a whopping 2,717 feet tall. The building has 163 stories and it is located in Dubai, UAE.

And there you have it, Russia’s tallest building is called the Lakhta Centre. The Lakhta Centre became the tallest building in Russia and the whole continent of Europe when construction was completed in 2018. It is an impressive building of neo-futuristic architecture. For those who are lucky to visit, it is an impressive sight that towers over all other buildings around it. Located in St. Petersburg, the Laktha Centre is truly a beauty to behold.
