When we are hungry, we have so many avenues at our fingertips to get food to us quickly. Many delivery services such as Doordash, Uber Eats, and Postmates can get food to us in under an hour.Â
Well, it’s a little different for animals. They have to hunt and forage for their food, which can take hours or sometimes even days to get the food they need. Well, this clever bear in Longwood, Florida, decided to cut that time out and get some nutrition from Uber Eats. Don’t miss the action in the video above!
Hungry Bear Sighted in Florida
On Friday, November 3, 2023, a black bear was sighted in the Orlando suburb of Longwood. A local family ordered some Taco Bell using the third-party delivery service Uber Eats. The family wasn’t the only ones who were hungry in this neighborhood.
At the start of this doorbell footage shared by Action News 5, we see the Uber Eats driver delivering the Taco Bell to the front door. Once she places it on the ground, the driver takes a picture as proof of delivery. At this moment, the customer who ordered will be alerted that her delivery has been completed.
Not long after this, we suddenly see a large black bear emerge from the side of the house and walk right up to the front door. He smelled these tacos a mile away and came running. Right after this happened, the homeowner opened her door to grab the food, but it wasn’t there anymore. The bear had held the bag in his mouth and trotted on out.
“The bear took the food!” the homeowner, Laidy Guiterrez, said in the above video.
“He came, and he grabbed the food – then he came again for the soda,” Nicole Castro, the homeowner’s niece, stated.
What Do Black Bears Eat?
Black bears (Ursus americanus), like the other eight species, are considered omnivorous eaters. Omnivore eaters are those animals that will eat both meat and plant matter. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, black bears eat a varied diet of “73% plants, 22% insects, and 5% animal matter.”Â
They will eat a variety of plant matter such as fruits, nuts, and sedges. They will also eat meat such as fish, rodents, and insects. Well, we guess we can add tacos from Taco Bell with all sorts of sauces added to this list!
