The magic of Christmas seems to come alive in this short video shown below. The twinkling of the northern lights like a painter graced his brush across the sky, reindeer trudging through the snow, and families gathering together to take pictures of their memories.

The Aurora Borealis Observatory Twitter page filmed and shared this video on their feed. The Aurora Borealis can be seen in places like the Arctic, Iceland, Greenland, and Norway, as seen in this video. Its beauty can stretch great distances, allowing people from all over the world to see its beauty.

What Are the Northern Lights?

Perhaps one of the best experiences you can add to your bucket list is going somewhere where you can see the beautiful northern lights. They are often called “a natural phenomenon found in both the northern and southern hemispheres.” Of course, we see their pictures and hear about how spectacular they are. But what are they?

According to NASA, “These natural light shows are caused by magnetic storms that have been triggered by solar activity, such as solar flares (explosions on the Sun) or coronal mass ejections (ejected gas bubbles).”

When this happens, the explosions of colors can appear green, pink, dark red, blue, purple, and yellow—giving us the most majestic winter wonderland we’ve ever seen. This breathtaking light show can be seen between September and April. The best times to see them are in the middle of the night, between 11-2 AM. However, there are reports of being able to see them outside those times as well.

We will save you the trouble of wondering. No, reindeer do not live at the North Pole. Despite the common childhood fairytale of Santa, his elves, and reindeer residing at the North Pole, this is nothing more than a childhood myth.

Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) are wild animals often referred to as caribou. They are often thought to be different animals. However, they are the same species with the scientific name Rangifer tarandus.

According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, “Caribou live in the Arctic tundra and the boreal forests of Greenland, Scandinavia, Russia, Alaska, and Canada.” So, as we can see, they can live in various climates, including cold and warm weather. Their thick fur coat is designed to keep them warm during winter.
