At the start of this video, we see a massive Asian elephant that is sliding down a muddy hill in Thailand. If we had watched the video at first, it looks as though this elephant may have been injured, and so that is why he is down on his knees like that. However, we know from reading the comment from his owner that this elephant was just being silly!

The YouTube description from the video shares that “Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild but they wander freely among protected forests and there is often conflict when they come into contact with humans on roads and in villages.”

Is the Asian Elephant the Biggest Elephant?

According to Britannica, there are three different species of elephant: the African savanna (bush elephant), the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. All three of these animals are extremely impressive animals in terms of size.

The Asian elephant weighs between 6,500-11,000 pounds and reaches up to 7-10 feet in height. While this is a large animal, it is not bigger than the African (bush) elephant.

The African elephant can weigh anywhere from 6,600-13,000 pounds and reaches up to 6-13.5 feet tall.
