It’s easy to see the difficulty in predators such as lions hunting down the world’s tallest land animal, the giraffe. Their impressive height of 20 feet makes them easy to spot but difficult for an 8-foot-long lion to take down. However, it’s rarely talked about how much these mammals really weigh. And when a predator gets plowed over by a giraffe, it’s not as easy to bounce back. Don’t miss this thrilling chase in the video below!

Lions Hunting Giraffe

The TikTok video at the top of the blog post takes us to Africa, where a group of lions bravely hunt down a giraffe. The Xingxhzrukd TikTok page shared this video on their channel. They share wild content worldwide of animals such as wolves, penguins, birds, insects, buffalo, bears, elephants, and crocodiles.

Giraffe Runs Over Lioness

At the start of the video, we see that a few members of this lion pride have found a lone giraffe and have decided to work together to take it down. These lionesses are well-versed in how to skillfully corral their prey to get them exactly where they want to take it down. Two lionesses led the chase by distracting the giraffe, while other lions took up the rear. Little does this giraffe know it is being led into a trap.

Suddenly, at 1:22, we see that a lioness has positioned herself up ahead for the ambush. But the giraffe doesn’t let that stop him. According to the San Diego Zoo, giraffes can run up to 35 miles per hour. He continues at full speed and runs over the lioness, flipping her up into the air and tumbling down onto the harsh desert terrain.

Lions are perhaps one of the fiercest predators in the wild animal kingdom. This is why they have earned the highly coveted title of king of the jungle. However, despite their many accomplishments and the fear that they put into prey, they are not invincible. Taking down a giraffe is not an everyday occurrence for them, and it’s easy to see why in the video above.

To put the size difference in perspective, a lioness weighs about 250 pounds. The males of the pride can weigh up to 500 pounds. According to Live Science, “A giraffe’s neck alone is 6 feet (1.8 meters) long and weighs about 600 lbs. (272 kilograms).” So, even with just the neck, the giraffe weighs more. Their entire weight is up to 4,200 pounds! So, we can only imagine how much it hurts to be plowed over like that.
