When Is National Pitbull Awareness Day?

National Pitbull Awareness Day will fall on October 28th, 2024. Be sure to also check the chart at the end of the article to see when it will occur in upcoming years.

National Pitbull Awareness Day History

In 2007, the National Pitbull Awareness Day was born with a mission to raise awareness about the sweet and loving disposition of this breed.

In modern times, pitbulls have been made to look mean, aggressive, and cruel. But this is the farthest thing from the truth.

Before modern times, pitbulls were adored as family companions. In history, parents had devoted trust to pitbulls and would make trips to the store and work while their child was left to be babysat by their pitbull (No matter what breed of dog you have, you should NOT leave a child unattended with a dog).

The origin of a pitbull comes from a cross between a bulldog and a terrier, which first began to rise in England during the 1800s. During this time, the original reason that pitbulls were bred was to help alleviate the rodent infestation that occurred during the Industrial Revolution. Sadly, they were also bred for fighting as this was a heartless form of entertainment back in the 18th century.

However, as the bull and terrier fizzled out of existence, the Staffordshire bull terrier that you have come to know and love today was born.

Why Is National Pitbull Awareness Day Important?

There are numerous reasons that National Pitbull Awareness Day is essential to these beloved dogs. Here are three of them.

1. It Plays a Vital Role in Truthful Awareness of the Breed

Sadly, many people will avoid being around, seeing, or adopting a pitbull because of the way that they have been portrayed. This leads to many shelters unfairly euthanizing these wonderful dogs because pit bulls are often the last breed people would consider adopting. By celebrating National Pitbull Awareness Day, you are helping to save many lives of pit bulls who would not have a second chance.

2. Opens the Gateway For Communication

Providing a way for pitbull advocates to share their love and experience with these misunderstood breeds leads the way to open communication. It can lead to conversations that open the minds and hearts of these beautiful dogs. For example, one statistic shows that the temperament level for these snuggle babies is at 82.3 %, landing them a spot as one of the top five most suitable breeds.

3. Meet Other Pittie Lovers and Their Pups

If you’ve moved to a new location or are feeling a little lonely, National Pitbull Awareness Day can serve as a great way to meet other lovers of this adorable breed.

What Does Pitbull Awareness Mean?

The mission behind pitbull awareness is to educate and shed light in communities on the positives of the pitbull breed that people often miss out on due to fear.

Are Pitbulls Needy?

While these muscular pups may seem strong and agile, they are extremely clingy. This is due to the breed’s dependency on human care and love, so if you’re looking for a breed that will keep you cozy during the winter and autumn, this may be a great choice for you.

What Is the Loyalty of a Pitbull?

When most people think of pit bulls, they think of their smiling faces, friendly personalities, and fierce loyalty. If you’re wondering how loyal pit bulls can be, there are a few things that can determine the level of loyalty, such as training, socialization, and personality. Keep in mind that each pitbull has a unique personality.

Do Pitbulls Get Mean With Age?

This can be true if a medical ailment makes your pup prone to aggression, such as hormonal changes or sickness. However, it is crucial to remember that a majority of what makes any animal aggressive is how you raise them.
