Water is a necessity that both humans and animals need for survival. However, that’s not all water is good for! In addition to hydration, animals worldwide take great pleasure in using water for cooling off, bathing, and playing around. Don’t miss this late-night rendezvous at the watering hole between these massive elephants. 

Elephant Sighting At Night

The YouTube video at the top of this blog post takes us to the Naledi Game Lodge in the Kruger National Park. The Africam YouTube page posted this video, and their subscribers of over 78,000 people continue to grow! It’s easy to see why they have such a great following with their coverage of live cameras around Africa. This shows us the sight of giraffes, African wild dogs, waterbucks, lions, and buffaloes.

Elephants Drinking Water At Night

This live camera is set up perfectly at the watering hole. This night, we see the largest land animals out for a late-night dip. Well, their version of a late-night dip is enjoying this water all to themselves so they can cool and rinse off. 

One elephant is already in the water and is play fighting with another elephant that has submerged his large body into the water. These large land mammals can weigh as much as 13,000 pounds and reach over 13 feet. 

A third elephant is putting himself into the mix as they are playing. Why should these two have all the fun? They continue to clash, wrapping their trunks around each other. By the end of the video, they have managed to take this play fight out of the water and back on land. 

Do Elephants Play Fight?

It’s not only the small animals of the wild animal kingdom that can enjoy playing. We see rather large animals, such as lions, hyenas, and giraffes, that play with one another. Well, the African elephant is no different.

Bulls especially like to play fight with one another to gauge the other’s strength. The Scientific American adds, “Play fighting also provides opportunities to test boundaries, gauge which can be trusted, and learn important body language.” 

As we can see from the video posted at the top, these elephants didn’t need to wait till the day to have fun. They did their playful sparring in the middle of the night.
