This cat is the epitome of a greedy hunter. Take a look at the video below which shows a bobcat hunting two birds at once in a river rapids.

The short video begins by showing a bobcat who is hunting. In the foreground, we can see a large bird, which the cat is deeply focused on. In an instant, the bobcat leaps across a small puddle in a river rapids to hunt down the bird. With a successful hit, the bobcat pins the bird to the rocks, getting good bites in at its neck.

At the same time, a second nearby bird begins to run away across the rocks in terror. With immense speed, the big cat begins chasing the second bird, while it still holds the first bird in its mouth! In a single motion, the cat can get to the second bird and grab onto it while dropping the first bird from its mouth. Talk about an extremely successful hunt!

Where Do Bobcats Live?

Bobcats are medium-sized predatory cats that are known for their cute appearance and ferocious hunting ability. They are an adaptable species that can live almost anywhere within North America, however, different types of bobcats have some preference for specific habitats.

In the United States, bobcats are pretty common in all states except for Deleware. Most sources claim that historical populations in Deleware were made extinct by deforestation and swamp draining. Most notably, there are some extremely thriving populations in select states such as Washington, Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia.

On a global scale, they can live anywhere between Mexico and Canada!

Bobcats derive all of their energy from meat, which makes them fully carnivorous. As obligate carnivores, they can’t be too picky with their prey choice, especially during seasons when food is scarce.

Most prefer to hunt animals that are relatively small in size. Smaller prey is usually easier to take down and can be more abundant than larger prey.

Some small prey that bobcats eat include rabbits, hares, small birds, and rats. Most notably, they are especially known for eating rabbits and hares, which is their preferred meal of choice!

When forced to eat larger prey, they may go for animals like chickens and fawns. There are even some reported cases of bobcats going after small cats and dogs!

Do Bobcats Attack People?

One common question people ask is if they will attack people if they get the chance. In most cases, bobcats won’t go after people, even if they have the chance. Due to their relatively small size, they tend to stay away from attacking large animals.

With that being said, they may attack or retaliate if you come close to them, or if you make yourself seem like a threat in any way. Additionally, rabid bobcats may attack people, as they have lost their normal cognition when it comes to hunting!
