Most of the big cat hunting videos online are of grassy regions and African prairies, but in a recent viral video, we get to see that sometimes things get a little muddy. In the video, we see the strength of a gigantic tigress as she expertly dispatches a wild boar while chest-deep in mud and water. Check out the video of the tiger hunting the boar below!

Tiger battles to catch a wild boar

As the video begins, we can see the tigress has already captured the boar, although the fight isn’t over. Amidst the struggle, the boar’s terrified shrieks can be heard, a pretty clear and brutal reminder that in order for a beautiful predator like the tiger to exist, there must always be prey. The tigress, undeterred by the boar’s screams of protest, maintains her grip on the throat.

Gradually, amid the huffing and puffing of the tigress, the boar’s shrieks start to falter, and you can tell that the fight is all but over. The boar’s resistance continues to weaken, and its movements stop entirely within moments. The tigress emerges victorious, her prize secured, even if she bears the marks of a muddy battle.

The lesson learned? Sometimes, bringing home the bacon means you gotta get a little bit muddy. Maybe we can relate to a tiger hunting a boar more than we expect!

Can Tigers Swim?

Tigers are excellent swimmers, often surprising many with their aquatic skills since many associate the stereotypes of cats and water. In fact, tigers may be some of the most water-oriented big cats in the world, along with jaguars from the rainforests of South America.

Tigers won’t hesitate for a moment to swim in the water for prey or even just to have a bit of fun! Often zoos will have water in the tiger enclosure since they love to swim so much.

Is it Normal for a Tiger to Hunt Wild Boar?

As opportunistic predators and obligate meat eaters, tigers will hunt a variety of animals, and while wild boar may be a part of their diet, there is a higher risk of death due to the injuries they can sustain. Wild boars are extremely aggressive and not only have large tusks but a formidable skull that they can use to ram into any opponent. There have been numerous incidents in India of wild boars attacking tigers that have ended in the death of the tiger.

Tigers will, however, risk attacking this strong prey and in eastern Asia they have been known to hunt packs of wild boar, picking them off individually. This is normal behavior for a predator like the tiger.
