The beauty of the snake however could not make up for the shock of finding it in her bedroom! The snake is also called the green tree snake even though it is bright blue. Where Are Common Tree Snakes Normally Found?

The scientific name for common tree snakes is Dendrelaphis punctulate. They are found throughout Australia’s northern tropics but can also be spotted in eastern Australia. Further populations of this snake are found in some parts of Western Australia extending down into New South Wales and north into Papua New Guinea. They are commonly found throughout the Brisbane area.

When it comes to habitat, they are usually found around trees as you would expect from their name. They are quite often spotted in woodlands, rainforests, and tropical gardens. They are described as arboreal snakes and are often seen in trees because they are an agile climber. Interestingly, they are also good at swimming. At the same time, it is not unusual to find them in houses as we see in this clip.

What Do Common Tree Snakes Normally Look Like?

These are slender snakes that can grow up to over 6 feet but they are normally around 4 feet in length. They have a very varied coloration. Some are green and this is why the species is sometimes called the green tree snake. However, they can also be yellowish-green, brownish-green, or black.

They also have a blue phase which is a stunning turquoise aqua color. Other blue phases can appear as a neon bright blue while stuff is all a dull navy blue. This coloration is quite rare but extremely beautiful.

Are Common Tree Snakes Harmful?

This visitor may have caused the homeowner to be startled but these snakes are not harmful. They mainly feed on frogs and skinks which they find by foraging. This probably explains why they are found so often in human homes. They are looking for food!

These are non-venomous snakes. They do not have fangs but do have tiny teeth – they are unlikely to cause an injury even if they bite you. These guys kill their prey by constriction but are so small that this is unlikely to cause a problem for humans.
