Watch This Sea Turtle Put Up an Epic Fight Against a Tiger Shark

Sharks are ferocious predators! In fact, they’re one of the most feared animals on the planet! While some are shy, others are extremely aggressive, with bull sharks, great whites, and tiger sharks at the top of the list.

You’d think no animal stands a chance against an angry tiger shark, right? Well, a turtle is brave enough to fight against one of these aquatic predators off the coast of a beach in Australia! Even though sea turtles can’t pull their heads and flippers inside their shells for protection, this skilled turtle fights back like a professional!

Will the Turtle Manage To Escape the Shark?

Unaware that a tiger shark is watching it, a sea turtle is leisurely swimming and enjoying its day. Then, the shark quickly swims towards it to catch it. However, the turtle isn’t taken by surprise! It masterfully outmaneuvers the shark by turning its shell toward the opponent and quickly swimming in the opposite direction. The shark doesn’t expect such a turn of events and ends up biting the shell! It doesn’t give up, though. The shark swims away as if pondering what to do next and then goes back to the turtle, biting it again. Like before, the turtle reacts much smarter – the tiger shark definitely wasn’t expecting its prey to put up such a fight!

While the tiger shark swims away, getting ready for another attack, the turtle just floats in the water as if it’s waiting for the “ferocious” predator to give it another unsuccessful try. And, of course, the shark always comes back. The turtle always masterfully turns its back on the predator, which ends up biting the hard shell and probably even losing some of its teeth. This continues for almost two minutes, and the shark, which is four times the size of the turtle, doesn’t manage to get even a small bite of its prey!

But wait, the greatest part is yet to come! When the tiger shark gets angry and realizes it doesn’t stand a chance, it gives up and leaves the spot. However, right when it turns away from the turtle, the aquatic reptile bites the shark’s tail! How amazing is that? It’s as if the turtle showed the shark who the boss is! After all, strength isn’t all they need to catch prey; outmaneuvering skills, and intelligent techniques assure the win!

In the end, the large shark left the spot hungry, with a bitten tail and probably toothaches!

Can Sharks Bite Through a Turtle Shell?

Generally, larger sharks can bite through a turtle’s shell. However, they don’t usually go after the shell, as biting the fins assures a much faster catch.

On the other hand, since turtles have many natural predators, they’ve learned how to escape them and survive by developing intelligent escaping techniques! So, even if a shark manages to approach a sea turtle, breaking its shell is highly unlikely because the turtle will quickly outmaneuver the shark by using its excellent side swimming abilities and swimming speed.
