For those of us who are not car savvy, there is one phrase we hate hearing people say. “Just pop the hood and take a look.” Like what are we supposed to be looking at? Sure the gears look nice and greasy, now what? Well, for this woman in the video posted above, popping the hood just might have saved her life. Don’t miss the shocking footage of what this squirrel did in the video above!

Pennsylvania Couple Is Going Nuts

Here’s a little PSA for everyone on this rainy Monday:Rodents and vehicles do not mix… My wife called me from…

This viral photo in the video at the top of this blog post was caught by CBS New York. And they knew they had to feature it on their channel.

A Pennsylvania woman was reportedly at a local library, and when she was leaving, she knew something was wrong. She started to smell a burning scent coming from the car. Knowing how dangerous this could be, she pulled over the side of the road. She picked up the phone and called her husband, Chris.

He knew he couldn’t be there straightway so he figured he would tell her to pop the hood and take a look. We can imagine Holly was a bit annoyed at being asked to look under the hood of the car as if she would be able to magically figure it out by looking at an engine. However, with her husband still on the phone, she popped the hood and took a look.

And to her shock, she saw over 200 walnuts and a gigantic nest all inside! Chris stated to Philly Voice, that his wife’s car “looked like they were storing up for the next 3 winters. Was absolutely nuts…no pun intended.””

When this couple finally got the help they needed to remove all the grass and walnuts, Chris said he was glad the grass wasn’t completely dry. Otherwise, it would have caught the car on fire.

Do Squirrels Store Food?

At some time or another, we are sure you’ve heard the famous line “storing nuts for winter.” We probably assumed this came from a dad at some point in life trying to teach the importance of saving money. However, it comes from the dedication that squirrels have had to store up food that they need for winter when food is scarce.

According to the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division, “Each squirrel maintains about 1,000 caches at a time and stores about 10,000 seeds and nuts a year.”

Squirrels are what we would refer to as hoarders when it comes to food. And because of this they are always appropriately prepared come winter time to have all of the food that they need. Squirrels are omnivore eaters which means they will eat both plant matter and meat. They will feast on things such as fruits, seeds, insects, and, yes, of course, nuts.
