The warehouse retailer’s giant selection is a little lacking in the pet department, but we were still able to find a few great products to try.

This month’s Costco product round-up includes a couple of their private-label brand, products. Kirkland Signature is often as good as the more expensive brands in quality. That’s because, like many stores, Costco contracts directly with them for a private-labeled product to offer at a lower price. So, if you’re looking to save a little money, a private-labeled “store brand” may be a good bet.

However, as with all things, do your research.

#1 Best Overall Pet Product: Travel Pet Throw with Collapsible Bowl Set

Just because they aren’t human children doesn’t make traveling with your pets easier. It probably makes it harder in some ways. However, the travel blanket and bowl set available from Costco should make that next overnight trip with your pets a little easier.

The Travel Blanket and Collapsible Bowl set comes with a large, 64” x 54” blanket and a 7.5” diameter collapsible bowl. The blanket’s plush side is fuzzy and cozy; to keep it from getting soaked, the other side is water-resistant. The two layers are quilted together with cute bone shapes in the quilting. Then, roll it up and keep it all together with buckle straps where the water bowl clips securely.

Although the set’s original purpose is travel, many customers use the blanket to protect car seats and couches. For some, it was lighter than they wanted, and it got caught in breezes easily. Overall, pet parents love it and the Travel Pet Throw and Collapsible Bowl Set is our pick for the best overall pet product this March at Costco.

2. Best Dog Food Deal: Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula

If you’ve ever dealt with health issues that required a special diet, you know how difficult finding great products can get. Dogs sometimes have sensitivities that only a diet with limited ingredients can help.

Because it’s processed in a facility that also processes many other foods including grains, it’s probably not a true limited ingredient diet (also known as an L.I.D.), Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula includes good-for-the-gut probiotics and does not include grains in the recipe.

The customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive and most pet parents say that their dogs love the food. There are a few that disagreed, saying that their dog does not like it. Regardless, Kirkland Signature products have a great reputation, so we’re not surprised by the excellent customer comments on the food quality.

Because changing dog foods can be tricky, a good approach is to do it in small increments. Begin by adding a small amount of the new food into your dog’s current food, then gradually increase the amount. It should make the transition fairly easy and minimize stomach upset.

Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula is our pick for the best dog food deal at Costco this March. It’s an affordable alternative to some of the pricier dog foods.

3. Best Dog Treat Deal: Zoe Super Bars Salmon Recipe

Costco has a great two-pack available that your salmon-loving pooch should love. Zoe Super Bars Salmon Recipe is made with fresh ingredients and in the USA.

They’re also free of corn, wheat, soy, and artificial flavors and colors.

Finding treats your dog goes nuts over isn’t always easy. Adding to the difficulty is treats that aren’t junk food! The Zoe Super Bars Salmon Recipe fits the bill for most dogs. The ingredient list for these treats is thankfully short, and filled with ingredients we can actually pronounce.

One drawback some customers report that these treats are smelly! However, many of those same customers also said that their previously picky pooches loved these treats like no other. There may be a connection, since the way to a dog’s stomach is through its nose!

While not cheap, Zoe’s Super Bars Salmon Recipe dog treats is our pick for the best dog treat this at Costco this month. The all-natural ingredients and clearly superior odor (to the dogs, anyway) makes treating your pooch satisfying for both of you.

4. Best Cat Food: Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula for Cats

Salmon is a recurring theme this month! Cats eating fish may be a cliché, but that doesn’t make it less accurate.

Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula for Cats has a wonderfully short list of quality ingredients. This grain-free formula has omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and the amino acids cats need for health. Although it’s recipe is grain-free, the food is processed in a facility that also makes other foods that may have grains. So, it’s possible that trace amounts of grain may be in the food.

Customer reviews for Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon & Sweet Potato Formula for Cats are overwhelmingly positive. Cats seem to love the food and pet parents like the price.

When changing cat foods, it’s a good idea to go slowly. Introduce a little at a time, then gradually increase the amount over several days. If your cat is more sensitive than average, take more time.

5. Best Flea and Tick Treatment for Cats: Seresto Cat Flea and Tick 8 Month Prevention

Depending on where you live, flea and tick season may be getting close. Costco is ready for you with an 8-pack of Seresto Flea & Tick prevention collar.

Seresto’s Cat Flea and Tick 8-Month Prevention helps keep your kitty flea-free and tick-free and minimizes the diseases that the tiny parasites transmit. The active ingredients are flumethrin and imidacloprid and the collar is easy to put on your furry friend.

According to customer reviews, they work well and quickly as long as your cat doesn’t ditch the collar out in the woods. As with all medications, some animals are more sensitive than others, so keep an eye on your cat’s skin for a few days after you put the collar on.

The Seresto Cat Flea & Tick 8 Month Prevention collar is our pick for this month’s best flea treatment for cats at Costco.

6. Best Horse Supplement: Cosequin Optimized Formula with MSM Equine Powder

A popular joint supplement, Cosequin comes in dosages for many animals. We were thrilled to find it at Costco in a two-pack that gives your equine friends a total of six pounds of the popular joint supplement.

Cosequin contains glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, and added MSM. The optimized formula is more concentrated than the original and one scoop will do the same as four scoops of the original formula.

The reviews are excellent, and most customers report positive results with happier and healthier horses. However, some horses don’t respond well to and it can cause behavioral changes.

Overall, the vast majority of horses respond well to the supplement and Cosequin Optimized Formula with MSMS Equine Powder is our pick for the best horse supplement this March at Costco.

How to Save Money at Costco

Although Costco’s pet department is pretty limited, the items they carry are terrific. Their online prices are great for members, but if you’re not a member you’ll pay a surcharge on the items that they sell online.

Because Costco’s prices are membership-based, you’ll find better prices with a membership and shopping in the warehouse.

Costco Memberships start at $60 per year for their basic membership and their executive membership is $120 per year. Regardless of which membership level you choose, there is an additional card available to any adult living in the same household.
