Kittens are born with all types of unique fur patterns, but Mishy Miska Moo is stealing the show. With more than 20k followers, Mishka was born with some unusual markings. She has a mullet that rivals Uncle Jesse’s in “Full House,” and a half-mustache. On the other side of her mouth, she has several dalmation-like spots, which only make her ten times more adorable. According to Mishka’s owner, @octoplum, she’s got spunk, a “paw print snoot,” and a “ghost chin.” While Mishka is one of a kind, how rare is it for cats to be born with such unique markings? Let’s find out.

Why Are Some Cats Born With Unique Markings?
It might seem like magic, but a cat’s markings are entirely determined by genetics. Kittens get DNA markers from their parents’ breeds, which then produce an offspring with mixed or dominant features. For example, melanocytes are responsible for making specific colors in a cat’s coat. In females, the X chromosome is responsible for black and orange coloring. Sometimes, this gene is repressed, resulting in white fur or a complete lack of pigment. This is commonly seen in calico cats, which have spotted coats that blend several different colors.
For a cat like Mishka, the suppression of colors leads to her white fur, while the X chromosome has given her an interesting pattern of black fur. Her mullet and freckles, however, are completely random! Genetics only determine which colors are present and when, but the design of those colors is unique to each cat. In Mishka’s case, the chromosomes she received for black markings just happened to give her the most fabulous hairstyle of any cat in the world.
Mishka’s Celebrity and Cat Counterparts
This fancy feline isn’t alone in sporting a mullet. Famous actors, such as Miley Cyrus and Joan Jett, have also had signuature mullet hairstyles. If anything, it makes Mishka look like the rockstar that she is! Or perhaps she was aiming for a more edgy vibe, reminiscent of Kiefer Sutherland’s portrayal as David in “The Lost Boys.” We’re pretty sure our furry friend is no vampire, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t just as cool as one.
In the world of famous cats, Mishka is one of several who have gone viral for their incredible styling. When it comes to eyebrows that we’re jealous of, Sam the Eyebrow cat is second to none. Similar to Mishka, he also has white fur with black markings, but his fur gives the impression of constantly surprised eyebrows. Boy, the cat is another black and white feline with some of the most unique markings we’ve ever seen. A black “bandit mask” covers his eyes, affectionately earning him the nickname of “Zorro.”
