Oregon is the 9th-largest state in the country, so it has plenty of space for people to spread out and build large homes. While the Beaver State isn’t known for sprawling cities or as a destination for the ultra-wealthy, some people have constructed large homes in this area. Today, we’re going to look at the largest house in Oregon and find out just how big it is and how the building’s measure compares to other structures.

What Is the Largest House in Oregon?

The largest house in Oregon is the Morrow Mansion, a 21,000-square-foot building. This mansion is located at 3705 Ballyntyne Road Salem, Oregon. Morrow Mansion has at least 7 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, 11 fireplaces, two full apartments, two offices, a swimming pool, and many other amenities. The structure sits on almost 10 acres of land in the southern part of the town.

Originally, Richard Morrow, the owner of Morrow Equipment, had the home built in 1992. Morrow owned the home until his passing in 2016. The largest house in Oregon stayed on the market for about a year before selling for a total of $2.5 million.

The buyer planned to turn this massive property into a bed and breakfast. However, the local government did not allow the plan to go through. As a result, the property has remained a residence. At least, no news concerning the property has emerged in recent years. The property was listed on Zillow for $3.95 million in 2019, but it was taken off the market in 2020.

Now that we know about the size of the largest house in Oregon, we need to understand it. After all, 21,000 square feet is not a relatable size to most people. For our metric readers, the mansion is 1,951 square meters in size. The house’s footprint is almost 0.5 acres in size or about one-third the size of a football field. The property, including the house, is about 10 acres or the size of 7.5 football fields. These measurements should give you an idea of the overall size of this property.

Where Is the Largest House in Oregon on a Map?

The largest house in Oregon is located at 3705 Ballyntyne Road Salem on the outskirts of Salem. Technically, the house lies in a part of Marion County that is not incorporated. This house is private property, so while it’s nice to see the layout of the land on a map, it’s important to respect the homeowners by keeping a legal distance.

A New Contender for the Largest House in the Beaver State

Although the Morrow Mansion is the largest house in Oregon, a new contender is going to overtake this house in the future. That is if the plan actually comes to fruition. According to HomesoftheRich, a property at 32020 SW Peach Cove Road in West Linn will be 50,000 square feet. The gigantic mansion-in-progress is located along the Willamette River. It is just about 15 miles south of Portland.

The only problem is that the property has run into serious issues with development. Mark Wattles, the man who started Hollywood Videos, invested about $12 million in building the property before selling it in 2018.

In 2021, the new buyer also decided to sell the unfinished property. Although the owner listed the property at $42 million, it never sold. That high price was for a completed property, and this one still is not done. When it is finally finished, the mega-mansion will easily overtake the current largest house in Oregon.

The house on Peach Cove Road will be 50,000 square feet with 11 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms. The house will also feature an indoor basketball court, wine cellars, a car garage for 60 vehicles, and many other amenities. However, it may be some time before the mansion is totally finished. So, for now, Morrow Mansion holds the title.

The Morrow Mansion is in Marion County, Oregon, a part of the state that has more than its fair share of wildlife. Take a look at some of the creatures that people can encounter in this region, including:

  • Mule deer
  • Northern rubber boas
  • Canada geese
  • Bobcats
  • Western rattlesnakes
  • Coyotes
  • Red-tailed hawk
  • Mountain beavers
  • Raccoons
  • Painted turtles
  • Bald eagles

These are just a few of the animals that inhabit this area, but many others thrive in this part of the state.

The largest house in Oregon is currently the Morrow Mansion. However, that house is set to lose its title in the coming years. Although Morrow Manion is 21,000 square feet, the mansion on Peach Cove Road will be over double that size at about 50,000 square feet. So, when that home is finally completed, we’ll have to update this article and let the readers know!
