However, the first season, which aired in 2014, was filmed at the Casa Palapa resort in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This American reality TV show is a spin-off of popular shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. The contestants were all once part of the original reality TV show. On the beautiful resort, the participants look for love.

The best time to visit Sayulita is from October to March. While you can visit this beautiful coastal village in the summer, the temperature is high and the crowds are large. Summers are also hot, humid, and wet! Expect rain on your trip if you visit in August or September. It’s also less busy after the holidays.

Things to do in Sayulita

There’s a long list of things to do in Sayulita. This beautiful coastal village provides visitors with plenty of opportunities to swim, surf, and play in the water. Apart from enjoying the cool water and warm weather, visitors can also visit exciting activities like the Sayulina Farmers Market and the San Pancho Bird Observatory. Bird watching is a popular activity in Sayulita.

There are also many guided tours available, including walking tours and boat tours. Monkey Mountain offers a challenging hike with some of the best views in the area.

One of the most popular things to do in and near Sayulita is to visit a hidden gem, the Playa del Amor in Marietas Islands National Park. Whale watching is also a great way to spend your time in the beautiful village.

Wildlife in Sayulita Mexico

It’s more common to see animals in Sayulita while walking the hiking trails nearby, compared to near homes and shops. Still, you can see plenty of animals, most of which are in the water. West Mexican Chachalaca

West Mexican chachalacas are unique and large birds in the family Cracidae. They are endemic to Mexico and can be found roaming in and near Sayulita. This bird mainly lives between northern Jalisco and southwestern Chiapas, however, you can find them as inland as Puebla. West Mexican chachalacas are long but surprisingly weigh less than 2 pounds. They can measure about 1.9 to 2.2 feet long. They have grey and brown feathers with white bellies.

West Mexican chachalacas have interesting behaviors. For instance, they mostly feast on fruit but will eat insects when necessary. Also, both female and male West Mexican chachalacas work together to build nests. However, the female incubates the eggs, but when the young are born, both sexes care for them. These birds are also chatty and make gruff chattering noises.

Black-throated Magpie-jay

Another animal you can find where Bachelors of Paradise is filmed is the black-throated magpie-jay. This species is striking and easy to spot. They are known for their long tails and bright blue coloration. More than half of their size is their tail. Black-throated magpie-jays are about 23 to 30 inches long and weigh less than 1 pound. On average, they weigh between 7.9 to 8.9 ounces.

Although they are bright blue, black-throated magpie-jays also have blackheads, bills, legs, and conspicuous crests. Their throats and chest are also black. However, some birds in the north have more white spots. These beautiful birds are also loud and have a call that resembles a parrot.

Humpback Whale

Although you won’t find a humpback whale while taking a stroll on the hiking trails near the coastal village of Sayulita, they are found in the water. Whale watching is a popular activity in the area and for a good reason. This is because many whales make their way to the Nayarit area to breed. It’s more common to spot these massive and breathtaking animals during winter. You may see them from the beaches or while taking a guided boat tour.

Humpback whales are very impressive. They are one of the largest animals in the world and can weigh up to 40 metric tons. These slow-moving whales are also long, easily growing past 50 feet. Humpback whales produce beautiful and complex songs during the breeding season. They can sing for nearly 30 minutes with variation in frequency.

Pacific Green Sea Turtle

Who wouldn’t want to feast their eyes on a beautiful Pacific green sea turtle? Many call the waters around Sayulita, Mexico home. Although it’s tempting to want to touch and interact with these gentle and giant turtles, sea turtles are protected. You should try to disrupt wildlife as little as possible, especially green sea turtles which are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Poachers, human interaction, construction, and climate change threaten their population.

Pacific green sea turtles are majestic animals. They are found all over the world and slightly vary in color. Green sea turtles have short necks and large flattened bodies. Their arms are paddle-like and perfect for swimming long distances. Interestingly, Pacific green sea turtles aren’t picky eaters, but their diets change with age. Young Pacific green sea turtles mainly consume meat like fish, while adults mainly consume vegetation like red moss, sea lettuce, and crinkle grass.

White-nosed Coati

Last on our list is the white-nosed coati. This beautiful animal has many local names including pizote, antoon, and tejón. They are long animals, but most of their length comes from their tails. Most white-nosed coati are about 3.6 feet long and weigh between 8.8 to 13.2 pounds. Although uncommon, some male white-nosed coatis can weigh 20 pounds.

These animals are found in some states in the U.S., like Arizona and New Mexico. They are also naturally distributed in Mexico and parts of Central America. These unique animals live in wooded areas in forests. White-nosed coati are omnivores and consume fruits, snakes, and carrion. These coatis can live about 7 years in the wild, but in captivity, they can live up to 14 years.
