Squirrels are ingenious little fellows. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Wildlife Division, squirrels can gather approximately 10,000 seeds and nuts in a single year! With that amount of resourcefulness, it’s no wonder this squirrel found himself an afternoon snack in the video posted below!

Watch the Video Below!

Squirrel Eating in the Park

The hilarious Instagram reel shown in the section above shares the most adorable squirrel eating at a local park. The Animals Doing Things Instagram page, which has almost six million followers, shared this video. They regularly post videos of animals such as seals, pigs, kangaroos, raccoons, and horses.

Squirrels Love Icecream Too

As the video starts, we see a woman sitting at a park enjoying an ice cream cone. While licking away at the ice cream, she makes a funny face and turns the camera slowly to a squirrel sitting on a bench made exactly for small animals. And he is licking away at a vanilla ice cream cone!

Is it Okay to Feed Squirrels Sweets?

There’s no doubt about it: This woman is the one who got a second ice cream cone for her friend there. And while it is certainly enchanting to watch a furry animal lick this ice cream cone like it’s his first time having sweets, it is not advisable to feed squirrels sugar.

So, we might agree with this and say, “Well, what about something I might make for the squirrels in my backyard?” That still is not advisable. Squirrels are omnivorous eaters that will eat things such as fruits, seeds, insects, vegetables, and nuts. Their diet intake is nothing like that of a human.

According to research, “If the ingredients taste good but are lacking in proper nutrients, the squirrel eventually will become malnourished and sickly.” So, while foods with salts and sugars are normal for human consumption, they can be dangerous for squirrels.

There are over 200 species of squirrels that can be found worldwide in places such as Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Central America, North America, South America, and Europe.

These small mammals weigh anywhere from 0.5-2.2 pounds. And because of this, they have to worry about various threats. Predators such as birds, foxes, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, raccoons, snakes, and even domestic cats will prey on squirrels. And if we think about it, the danger of sugar is as real a threat to this squirrel as a predator.
