The underdog often comes out as the winner. Or maybe, in this case, it isn’t the dog that comes out the winner, but rather the…warthog? Does that sound right? Well, this warthog found himself in a precarious situation, and instead of folding and laying down to die, he chose to fight.
African Wild Dogs Sighting in Africa
Our next YouTube video clip, posted at the bottom of this blog post, takes us to Africa. This video was shared by the World Wild Web. This YouTube page is a channel dedicated to providing videos on animals such as hammerhead sharks, crocodiles, black bears, bullfrogs, birds, and elephants, to name a few. They share their mission for what they do below.
“From the savannas of Africa to backyards in the USA, World Wild Web is the home of the newest and best animal videos from all over the world.”
Warthog Vs. African Wild Dogs
At the start of this video clip, we hear the sounds of a camera taking dozens of pictures every few seconds. Just up ahead, there is a warthog who is surrounded by a dozen African wild dogs. The photographer filming this interaction was Peter Geraerdts. And this experience was just too good to pass up.
These wild dogs know that this is the perfect moment to strike. As this warthog has found himself alone in the wild. And lucky for this pack, they are all there to take this feisty little fellow down together. However, this warthog refuses to be taken down without a fight.
Toward the end of this video, we hear the narrator share a comment that Peter had made about this experience. “Warthogs are the Mike Tyson of the bush. They can injure a wild dog severely.”
Unfortunately, for this warthog, multiple African wild dogs are there not just one. We see this warthog fight for his life, and then he quickly finds an avenue to escape and runs like the wind.
Do Warthogs Bite?
Although this warthog looks small in this video, they are quite large. They can weigh anywhere from 110-330 pounds. Which far outweighs the African wild do, only weighing between 39-79 pounds.
The warthog has large, sharp teeth, and in addition to that, they have two very four very long tusks. These tusks can grow up to 24 inches in length. According to Live Science, when a warthog decides to fight, they will “slash at the attacker with its tusks and bite with its sharp teeth.”
