Massive Crocodile Is Calling a Florida County Its Home... And Neighbors Aren't Happy

Breaking news: A massive crocodile has made Brevard County its home.

This next breaking news takes us to Brevard County in Florida. A group of neighbors have banded together after they have seen a crocodile in their neighborhood constantly showing up. Not only has it shown up, but it is also leaving the comfort of the lake to find rest on land in their backyards!

A prestigious news station in Central Florida, the Fox35 news channel, has caught wind of this report. And we see their reporting on the newscasting at the bottom of this blog post.

Crocodile Sighting in Brevard County

This newscast starts by sharing footage of this crocodile basking in the backyard. He is outside of the lake and on one of the neighbor’s backyards. The neighbors all guess that this crocodile is anywhere from 8-9 feet in length. And although that is not the largest crocodile to have ever been reported, it is still longer than an adult man!

What is the FWC?

The neighbors are saying that the FWC is not taking their concerns seriously. The FWC is the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. According to their mission, their passion is “Managing fish and wildlife resources for their long-term well-being and the benefit of people.”

When the people of Brevard County announced their concerns to the FWC, it was reported that the Deputy Director of the FWC stated the following. “The FWC was recently made aware of a concern about a crocodile by a homeowner in Brevard County. Staff will continue to monitor the situation, and we’ve encouraged Mrs. Marks and residents to reach out if they have any questions or concerns.”

One neighbor stated, “I feel unheard. I feel like they are taking the crocodile’s concerns over the people.” Another neighbor shared his concern, “I’ve got small dogs, and I’ve got grandchildren that come over here and fish.”

It’s important to note that these concerned citizens aren’t asking for the crocodile to be harmed in any way. But, with it so close to a suburban neighborhood and on people’s property, they are merely asking for it to be safely relocated.

Are Crocodiles Aggressive Towards Humans?

Crocodiles are large beasts that can weigh upwards of 2,000+ pounds and can reach up to 23 feet in length. And while this crocodile is not this large, it is still a concern to these neighbors who have children and pets they are worried about being harmed.

These reptiles are not typically aggressive to humans as they won’t attack unprovokedly. However, we always issue warnings that just because an animal isn’t known to be aggressive doesn’t mean that there are situations where they can’t be.

According to American Oceans, “Crocodiles are known to be potentially dangerous animals. They are apex predators and have been known to attack humans if they feel threatened or if they are hungry.”
